Dreams Come True Bass Classic set for March 6

Barham says, ‘Could we do it? Yeah, we could.’

On March 6, the 7th Annual Brian Harris Chevrolet Dreams Come True Bass Classic will be held at Doiron’s Landing in Stephensville. Proceeds from the annual fundraising fishing tournament go to Dreams Come True of Louisiana, Inc., a non-profit organization granting dreams to children in Louisiana with life-threatening illnesses.

First prize in the tournament pays a whopping $10,000. Additionally, the top three biggest bass will earn $1,250 for first place, $750 for second and $500 for third. An additional $1,000 Brian Harris Chevrolet Bonus will be given to the winners if they are pulling their rig with a Brian Harris Chevy vehicle.

The entry fee is $250 with launch fee included. Check-in will start at 4:30 a.m., and boats may leave at 5 a.m.

Mike Venable of Brian Harris Chevrolet says the children who are being helped are also able to participate in the activities of the day.

“We have a lot of the Dreams children come out for this event, and we provide them with rods and reels, life jackets and people to supervise  them,” he saaid. “We let them fish, and sometimes they get to go on boat rides.”

This is a pick your partner tournament, open to all persons. A team will consist of two people, providing that one individual is at least 18 years old. Both members must have a valid fishing license.

The grand door prize this year is compliments of CCA of Louisiana. It includes an all-expenses-paid fishing trip for three to Venice with Tailchasers Rod & Gun Club of Buras. The lucky winners will get to fish with CCA of Louisiana Executive Director David Cresson, Chef KD and Mike Venable.

They’ll also receive a gourmet dinner prepared by Chef KD. Only Bass Classic entries are eligible for this grand prize, and the winner must be present.

A pre-tournament meeting will be held at Thomas Marine in Gonzales on March 4 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Anglers are not required to attend this meeting to fish in the tournament, but attendance is encouraged.

Venable says fishermen may also come to register for the classic at the pre-tournament meeting. Food and drinks will be available, as well as door prizes and a 50/50 raffle.
