Daily limit back to 10 fish with no minimum length, LDWF says
Beginning this Saturday, bass anglers in the Atchafalaya River Basin will once again have a 10-fish daily creel limit, according to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
In June of 2013, in an action now set to expire, the LWF Commission reduced the daily creel limit to seven for a two-year period when they removed the 14-inch minimum length requirement for Basin bass.
The decision to change the regulation in 2013 was made after review of an extensive three-year study that showed the Basin largemouth bass population did not exhibit criteria where a 14-inch limit would produce larger bass.
The study indicated the Basin bass population is more heavily influenced by environmental factors, including water fluctuation and the effects of tropical storms rather than angler harvest.
Impacted waterbodies include the Atchafalaya River Basin, Lake Verret, the Lake Palourde Complex, Lake Fausse Point and Lake Dauterive.
