Success after failure

“Autumn Hebert, 11, was on her first deer hunt on Oct. 11 in Red River Parish. We had this pretty buck come out at 65 yards. She already had buck fever and was so nervous on her first deer hunt. She got the gun out the window and waited for a broadside shot and squeezed the trigger and missed just underneath. But without a doubt she looked at her daddy and said ‘it’s ok dad. I’m not giving up. I prayed for this and he will be back to give me another chance. We will come back early tomorrow morning and get him.’

Next morning we got on stand an hour and half before shooting time. After some patience, he came out at 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 12 in the same exact spot, 65 yards broadside. She slowly squeezed the trigger again and connected! He ran into the woods on three legs dragging one front one. We decided it would be best knowing he wasn’t far to follow after him for a follow-up shot. We found him 20 yards into the brush and a perfect follow-up shot to finish him quickly. She looked at dad and asked ‘Daddy, did I just kill a bigger buck than you?’

Pure excitement for her and of course dad being there to help through all of it.”
