W. Ian Pope got this nice Bossier Parish buck right on the Red River on Dec. 15, 2025.
“I had been chasing this deer for the last two seasons. He showed up on my deer camera last year as an almost exclusively nocturnal buck. This year he started making appearances in the last 10 to 20 minutes of shooting light. On Dec.15, he slipped in with about 10 minutes left. I pulled the trigger and he tucked tail and ran. When I got to where he was, all I found was a small sliver of skin with white hair. My heart dropped and I figured I’d either grazed him or gut shot him. I backed out and came in the next morning with my buddy Cody. We walked about 30 yards and there he was. Perfect shot but not a single drop of blood. The skin that I found came from a self inflicted kick almost directly under his shoulder. This is my first nice buck. What makes it even better is that I was able to take him on my grandparents’ farm in north Bossier Parish right on the Red River.”
