Madison Parish buck for Dylan Mayeux

Dylan Mayeux (left) with the 200-pound, 9-point buck he killed on New Year’s Eve at a deer camp in Madison Parish. His buddy, Jeffrey Lupo (right), had shot the same buck earlier that morning.

“On New Year’s Eve, my buddy Dylan and I made a quick run to the deer camp in Madison Parish on New Year’s Eve. We had to get back home to New Orleans that night so the deal was we would only shoot wall hangers. We head out into the woods, I drop my buddy in a box stand on a food plot and I walk to my tripod about 300 yards in the woods. At 6:54 a.m., COLD morning, I hit the Primos can and a few grunts…at 6:58 this giant comes running on a beeline to me. He stops about 35 yards from me and I shoot with my .260…he flinches but haul’s ass through the woods. I get down at about 9:30 to only find a small pile of white hair. Looked for a while and couldn’t find anything else. We go in to town for lunch and I’m all upset, knowing I let that big boy get away. We get back out into the woods at about 1:20…we go sit in the same exact stands. As we’re walking in, I look at Dylan and go ‘You’re gonna shoot my buck aren’t you?’ Sure enough, at 3:15, after agreeing to only shooting studs, I hear a .308 kill shot from Dylan just under 300 yards away. Turns out, this buck comes limping out on to the food plot from my previous shot that morning and Dylan finishes him off. One of the coolest moments of my life seeing my buddy kill that deer. Awesome story to ring in the new year.”
