Grant Smith’s 465-pound hog

Grant Smith shot this 465-pound hog in Washington Parish.

“I farm ground near the Tangipahoa/Washington Parish line and have struggled to keep hogs out of fields and making it hard on equipment, etc., for several years. There’s plenty of good water, deep ravines to hide and, thanks to several dairy and grain farms, plenty to eat for these pests to flourish. I occasionally scan the fields at night and have killed 59 or 60 this summer hunting on and off when I have time.

On Aug. 28, Friday evening, I made a pass around the fields on my motorcycle and scanned a field, saw a hog, took aim off the windshield of the motorcycle and bang. When I drove out to get it out of the field I realized one, I needed some equipment, and two, I had never seen a hog this size before. Not even close. Pictures don’t do it justice.”
