“My husband (kwsoutdooradventures) and I climbed into the stand on a private pipeline in North Louisiana at 6 a.m., with shooting light starting at 6:39. Right at shooting light, deer began moving. At about 6:45, I took my first shot on a spike that stepped out down one shooting lane.
There were three does standing down a different lane, but after the shot they stayed put. I turned to take another shot, but with the fog and gray light behind them I couldn’t clearly see, so I chose not to shoot. They eventually walked off.
Less than five minutes later, all three does came back out. By then the fog had lifted and visibility was much better. Once I had a clear, ethical shot, I took it. The second deer was taken within 10 minutes of the first.
We climbed down from the stand at 7:07 a.m. to track and neither deer went more than 20 yards. A calm, quick hunt with my 300 Blackout and a morning I won’t forget.”
