Summer fishing for Bubba

“Myself, my buddy Butch Detiveaux, my daughter Bailey and her boyfriend left Cocodrie to go fish Lake Barre for trout. We stopped at the Tracy Macie to get live croaker and live shrimp. We were rigged up to fish the bottom with a Carolina Rig with a kale hook. We fished a few structures and couldn’t find them. We tried boom shrimp under a Four Horsemen, but that didn’t work either. We finally found a structure where we started getting bites, but they were picking up the bait and dropping them. We soon realized we needed to free spool and let them take the bait. After around four nice 2-pound trout I had a good bump and then it took off, I set the hook and 20 minutes later, landed about a 25-pound black drum. I released him and put on another bait and cast out. Not long after that I hooked a nice fish, it was pulling drag and ended up around a piling. I thought for sure I would lose it. We let some anchor rope out and I was able to get behind the piling and got the fish out of the structure, 15 minutes later I landed a 25-pound redfish. Released him and baited up again, caught a few more trout and then hooked another big fish, this time he went around a cork for a crab trap. I for sure thought I was going to lose it, but the line was able to overcome the cork and rope and come free, 15 minutes later landed another redfish around 22 pounds I. released him and rebaited, caught a few more trout and then hooked an 18-pound redfish, 10 minutes later landed and released him. All in all we caught 3 redfish, 1 drum and 27 trout, not a bad day. My Shimano Calcutta 200B with 15-pound spiderwire got it done on a Berkley 7′ medium rod.”
