Bryce’s Bussey Brake giant

Bryce Acreman took an afternoon trip to Bussey Brake in Morehouse Parish on Feb. 25, 2025. Bussey is known for big bass, but it also holds several of the state record crappie. After about an hour on the lake, Bryce ran across a giant crappie on the Garmin Livescope. He dropped a hand-tied blue and silver hair jig in front of the fish and the fish bit immediately, but came off at the surface of the water. Bryce was able to immediately locate the same fish with the LiveScope and chased the fish down for approximately 6 minutes. Finally, the fish bit the same jig for the second time and he was able to land it in the boat! The fish weighed in on Bryce’s handheld scale at 3.39 pounds! Knowing this was very close to a state record, Bryce immediately called Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries for a certified weight. The certified scales weighed the fish at 3.32 pounds, just .06 away from being recorded in the record books. A fish of a lifetime! The fish was boat-flipped (no net) with a 15′ ACC Crappie Stix pole and was caught on a blue/silver hand tie by Jimmy Watt (100-Watt Power) out of Bastrop, La.
