
Unmanned boat found near Irish Bayou, LDWF says
A father and son died Saturday during a fishing trip in Lake Pontchartrain after both men somehow entered the water, according to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
The bodies of Levi Slaughter Jr., 87, and his son Levi Slaughter III, 62, were recovered around 8:15 Saturday night near where their unmanned 19-foot boat was found near Irish Bayou.
According to the family, the men had left to go fishing around 8 a.m. on Saturday. It is unknown right now what caused the men to enter the water, the release states.
Both men were found without life jackets, according to the release.
