Stalking gear

Stalking might be an ancient tactic, but the smart hunter takes advantage of modern technology.

Game cameras, for instance, can help locate bucks and their travel routes. Also, scent-control products reduce human odor and can save the day if the wind shifts unexpectedly.

Grunt calls can bring a rutting buck to a halt or lure him out of a thicket.

And a small pair of binoculars is useful for scanning distant bushes.

A leafy Ghillie suit is very effective at breaking up a hunter’s outline and allowing him to blend into cover. But don’t forget to cover up your head, since a shining face is often the first thing a deer spots.

And use a safari sling on your rifle to keep the weapon in front of the body and ready for action. It takes much less motion to raise a rifle using this sling than one slung on the shoulder.
