LDWF agents cite subject for migratory game bird violations

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited a subject for alleged duck hunting violations in Vermillion Parish on Sept. 27.

Agents cited Matthew Morgan, 33, of Cameron, for taking wood ducks out of season and wanton waste of migratory game birds.

Agents received information on Sept. 27 about the illegal taking of wood ducks during the open teal season near Gueydan. Agents learned that Morgan was actively guiding hunters when four wood ducks were taken and left in the hunting area.

Agents made contact with Morgan and he said he gave the hunters the call to shoot before he realized they were wood ducks. He also said he threw the four wood ducks into the canal behind the hunting blind.

Taking wood ducks out of season and wanton waste brings a $400 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail for each offense. Morgan will also be assessed civil restitution totaling $204 for the illegal taking of the wood ducks.

Agents participating in this case are Sgt. Zachary Meche, Sgt. Jacob Cramer, and Sgt. Justin Sonnier.
