Miles Hardy’s big catch

Miles Hardy, 8, was fishing with his dad and his brother in Bayou Teche behind his great-grandmother’s house in Leonville when he caught this 21-pound catfish using crawfish for bait.

“I’ll never forget the day I caught the biggest fish of my life.

My name is Miles Hardy, and I’m 8 years old. Me, my dad and my brother were fishing in Bayou Teche behind my great-grandmother’s house in Leonville. I was using a crawfish for bait, just hoping to catch something.

All of a sudden, I felt a really hard tug on my line. It almost pulled my rod down, and I knew right away it was a big one. I got excited, but I was a little nervous too.

My dad was right there with me, helping me and telling me what to do. He kept saying, ‘Don’t let him get away, son!’ I held on as tight as I could while the fish pulled and fought. It felt like it took forever, but I didn’t give up.

Finally, we got it close enough to see and it was HUGE!!! With my dad’s help, I pulled in a 21-pound yellow catfish!! I couldn’t believe my eyes!!

That was the best day ever!! I’m definitely going to keep fishing, and I hope I can catch an even bigger one next time! But this catch is one I’ll never forget!!”
