Kole Devillier, 5, got this Avoyelles Parish, Area 6, 4-point, his biggest buck so far, on Jan. 25, 2026.
“At just 5 years old, Kole Devillier is already showing the kind of grit and determination that many seasoned hunters spend a lifetime developing. A kindergarten student at Avoyelles Parish Charter School, Kole wrapped up this hunting season with accomplishments most kids only dream about—and he did it the right way, with patience, hard work, and a deep respect for the outdoors.
This season, hunting private land in Area 6 of Avoyelles Parish, Kole successfully harvested three deer: a doe, a spike that marked his very first buck, and later a 4-point buck. Each harvest represented more than just success—it was a milestone in a journey that began years ago when he first started tagging along with his dad into the woods.
Kole has been a part of the hunt for as long as he can remember. Long before he ever pulled the trigger himself, he was quietly observing, learning wind direction, listening for movement, and soaking up every lesson the woods had to offer. Those early mornings and late evenings built a foundation that showed clearly this season.
Behind the scenes, Kole put in countless hours of practice at home, working on his shooting skills and learning gun safety. That dedication paid off when it mattered most. When the moment came, he stayed calm and focused—something that doesn’t always come easy, especially for a five-year-old.
While private land brought success, public land brought lessons. This year, Kole didn’t harvest a deer on public land, but he never let that discourage him. Instead, he walked—sometimes over a mile deep—right alongside his dad into tough spots most adults hesitate to reach. Ground blinds, chairs, and backpacks were packed in by dad, but Kole carried his own gun every step of the way.
Not once did he complain. Not once did he fuss. There were no negative words, only determination and excitement for the hunt ahead. That attitude alone speaks volumes about his character.
For Kole, hunting isn’t just about harvesting deer. It’s about time spent outdoors, learning patience, building resilience, and forming memories that will last a lifetime. He has developed a genuine love for the outdoors—one that can’t be forced or taught, only nurtured.
In my opinion, the sky is truly the limit for Kole’s future as a hunter. His drive, work ethic, and respect for the sport at such a young age set him apart. As a father, there’s no greater pride than watching your child grow, learn, and succeed—especially when those moments happen in the woods, side by side.
Kole Devillier may only be five years old, but his story is already one worth telling. And this season is just the beginning.”
