“This is 8-year-old Jasmine Hammontree. She loves exploring the outdoors and has a passion for fishing. From a 41-inch redfish at Grand isle to a 40-pound alligator gar on the Sabine River, Jasmine has fished all over Louisiana and parts of Texas. Jasmine currently has four IGFA junior length world records and has beat two of those twice over. All of Jasmine’s record catches have been recorded on video to verify all IGFA angling rules were followed. Jasmine is always pursuing another record to beat.
Jasmine’s bowfin world record was a wild one, sight fishing for spawning bowfin with cut bluegill when we spotted a female bowfin plenty big enough for the record. Jasmine cast past the fish and reeled the bait within a few inches in front of the fish and stopped. Within moments the record breaking fish inhaled the bait, Jasmine waited just a second before setting the hook and the fight was on. Anyone who has caught a bowfin knows how hard they fight. Jasmine was 6 years old at the time and was bowed up fighting the fish to the net.
Jasmine’s white crappie world record was a surprise. While bass fishing on Vernon Lake, Jasmine cast her white spinner bait and started her retrieve. I heard her drag let out some line, I looked over to her with her rod bent and asked if she was hung up, she replied “nope I’ve got one.” I immediately ran over to watch her fight the fish. We were both very surprised to see it was a big white crappie.
Jasmine’s smallmouth buffalo world record was a result of long hours spent on the Sabine River. This record beat Jasmine’s old record from the same exact spot. This fish picked up sweet corn topped with an American carper popup artificial corn on a classic hair rig. After a tough fight the buffalo was finally in the net. We recorded all the measurements required and sent the big girl on her way back to the river.
Jasmine’s common carp world record was caught during the 2025 Mill Creek Cup Carp Tournament in Canton, Tex. This fish picked up double Trilogy Carp Baits tiger nuts on a classic hair rig late in the evening of the last full day of the tournament. This 21-pound fish won big fish netting Jasmine a $780 prize.
