Louisiana’s outdoorsmen have really taken to the Sportsman logo, and the trademarked fleur-de-lis is everywhere. From T-shirts to decals to tattoos, it seems everyone wants to sport the eye-catching design.
Unfortunately, unscrupulous businesses are taking advantage of the craze to produce unlicensed likenesses and sell them to unsuspecting customers. That has forced Louisiana Sportsman’s parent company, Louisiana Publishing, to take action to defend the trademark. MORE ...
Hopedale trout transitioning to the bottom
While the trout transition to the inside around Hopedale has long been completed, Captain Charlie Thomason with Bayou Charters (504-278-FISH) says there’s another kind of transition happening right now. “The trout are really starting to fall to the bottom,” he said. “And the fishing is awesome.”

Duck survey show mixed results
Many hunters were disappointed with the West Zone opening of the duck season, with most reports being of dismal numbers.
“Hunted north of Kaplan, (and) what an opener,” LouisianaSportsman.com user mr-crappie wrote yesterday. “Five hunters Saturday (killed) two bluewing teal; four hunters Sunday … didn’t see a duck.”

Wind forcing early bite around DuLarge
Two weeks ago, Captain Bill Lake with Bayou Guide Service (985-851-6015) was crushing the speckled trout in Lake Mechant and Sister Lake at the rate of 100 per day. For the last few days, though, the wind has taken about 40 trout off the top of that. However, he says 60-trout days are only possible right now if you get out there at the crack of dawn.

Duck sightings spotty, but conditions are promising
It seems like here in south Louisiana we get things in extremes. It’s either hot or cold, with rarely an in-between. Sometimes we pray for rain to alleviate drought, and other times we get floods. As it relates to the waterfowl hunting conditions here in Louisiana, it seems like more often than not we’re praying for rain to flood our fields and backwaters – but this year it looks like Mother Nature has outdone herself.
