A Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) enforcement agent cited three subjects for alleged hunting violations on June 15 in St. Bernard Parish.
LDWF Senior Agent Salvador Mangano cited Jorge A. Caballero del Cid, 31, Alfredo J. Rodriguez-Soler, 26, and Bryan J. Sanchez-Brooks, 30, all from St. Bernard Parish, for hunting from a moving vehicle, hunting from a public roadway and hunting rabbits during a closed season.
LDWF agents received numerous calls in the past two weeks about the subjects in a dark colored Dodge Ram truck hunting rabbits at night off Hwy. 46.
On June 15, St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies witnessed the described truck turn on lights, shoot out of the vehicle, and exit the vehicle and retrieve animals from the wood line. The deputies then called LDWF agents about the incident they witnessed.
Senior Agent Mangano arrived on the scene and during his interview with the subjects they admitted to hunting rabbits from the truck on the roadway.
Senior Agent Mangano seized a .22 caliber rifle with scope, a .177 pellet rifles with scope and three freshly harvested rabbits.
Hunting from a moving vehicle and hunting rabbits during a closed season brings a $250 to $500 fine and up to 90 days in jail for each offense. Hunting from a public roadway carries up to a $350 fine.
The subjects may also face civil restitution totaling $95 for the replacement value of the illegally taken rabbits.
