Drawdown scheduled to begin Sept. 8 on Bayou D’Arbonne Lake

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) reminds the public that a drawdown on Bayou D’Arbonne Lake in Union Parish is scheduled to begin on Sept. 8 and continue through Nov. 15. The lake will be lowered to a level of five feet below pool stage at a rate of approximately four inches per day.

The lake will not be closed to fishing during the drawdown. Caution is advised for boaters during the low water period, as boat lanes will not provide normal clearance for underwater obstructions.

The drawdown is being done in coordination with the Bayou D’Arbonne Lake Watershed District to allow for maintenance to shoreline properties and to provide control of nuisance aquatic vegetation. Drawdowns for this purpose have been scheduled to occur every four years and have been performed on this schedule since 2004.
