Awesome catch and awesome story.
good kill. What do y'all think about deer hunting w/ a .357 magnum? Effective? and at what range?
Went to Gator Run in Easton, Tx last weekend. Plenty of water and mud on 5200 acres. Had a really good time.
I am sorry for your loss, but it's great that your family was not hurt (at least not physically). Hang in there.
Mike G, are you giving this guy tips on posing for pictures?
"Back in the day" referred to the 1980's, when the book was written. There were plenty of camo patterns in the 80's. As for burnt cork, I suppose the Louisiana deer population could have "evolved" such that they now fear the smell of burnt wine corks. I wonder why they haven't evolved to avoid the smell of cars on the highway? By the way, paint and masks have odors, too.
Use the burnt cork. I read a hunting book by Bob Fratzke (one of the premier bow hunting authorities back in the day) where he advocated using burnt cork as a face paint always. Good luck.
Good to have you back and posting. I hope all works out well for your wife's health. She'll be in our thoughts and prayers.
Nice deer!! And don't fret about the first shot, we've all done it at one point or another.
nice Waterboy joke, there.
If Joey W. and Steve P. can catch fish like that, just imagine what I could do (hehe). From what I hear up here in S'port, you all had a great time. I guess it's time me and some buddies pay the Capt a visit.
A car/boat is a different issue altogether. But as far as your own house, you can and should say NO if the authorities do not have a search warrant.
A game warden can NOT search your home without a warrant, your consent, or some emergency situation. That is a right guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution, which trumps anything Louisiana has to say on the subject.
Any black jaguars, etc that might be found in the wild are probably not covered by state law. But they assuredly ARE covered by the federal endangered species act, so I'd make sure I could prove I was being attacked before I pulled the trigger. Just a thought.
It's what's for dinner.
The other, other white meat!
I keep off this site for a week and look what happens. I never thought I'd see the day...........of all things....myspace!!!
Hate to disagree with you JLT, but fillet? THAT FISH? Mike G, don't waste that fish by subjecting it to an electric fillet knife. Use a spoon to scrape it. That's the ONLY way to eat a bream. Enjoy.
I'm not sure who else (besides the State) would pay for roads to be fixed, schools to be constructed, job training programs to be implemented. So, yes, I do think some more money will need to be invested in these areas. BUT, you are dead-on right about corruption in this state...Louisiana could have a trillion dollars and still rank dead last in the important categories if certain bureaucrats and state legislators hand the $ over to their pals. If anyone wants to know who these guys are, I suggest spending a little reading time at www.thedeadpelican.com
