Does anyone know the status of the Eric and Monique Newman investigation or did they just give these two a pass and chalk it up to business as usual in Louisiana?

With the weather being so crummy June 1-3, is there any talk of extending or adding a few days to snapper season?

That's just about right for the powers that be to appoint another advocate for the commercial fishermen. What about the recreational fishermen? The guys that own their own offshore fishing boat (which seems more and more of a crazy investment) can hardly justify going fishing anymore. We get just 9 days for red snapper, of which weather takes about half, people that work can't go fishing during the week days, so maybe a recreational red snapper fisherman will fish two out of nine days. Am I the only one that thinks is the most absurd reasoning I have ever heard in my life. It used to be that you could ALMOST justify going snapper fishing and catch your measly two fish, because you could pick up a few amberjack for the boat to make it somewhat cost effective. BUT NO, now the restaurant lobbyist have paid their way into the decision making. 'OK commercial guys, keep bringing those thousands and thousands of red snapper to our restaurants, but let's crush those recreational guys and give them two per trip. I could go on and on but it makes my blood boil. I have a great idea for the commission, appoint Crabtree to the commission and you can rename it the Commercial and Charter Boat Commission!! Sportsman's Paradise - my ass!!

To Buddy and all those commercial snapper fishermen who think they are “entitled” to those never ending allotments, let’s compare. I was a pilot for twenty years and got paid to fly, am I entitled to someones airplane for the rest of time. For a waiter or waitress that worked for twenty years, are they entitled to free food for the rest of time. For the car salesman that worked for GMC for twenty years, are they entitled to free cars for the rest of time. For the bank employee of twenty years, are they entitled to free money for the rest of their days. How absurd is that thinking?! Someone please explain how this is allowed. Drain the swamp,

Well, there’s a list of restaurants that I will never set foot in again. The restaurant lobbyists are strong, very strong, but collectively, the recreational fishermen are stronger. Folks, words won’t get these chef’s attention but when you make your opinion known with your credit card (or lack of credit card), they will eventually get the message. For the last six years I have never ordered red snapper in a restaurant and encourage my dining friends to do the same.

A comment titled: Re: 3 DAY RED SNAPPER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! in response to a report titled: 3 DAY RED SNAPPER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well the argument that there are plenty of rigs within nine miles to fish snapper during the 'state' season is true IF you fish east of Grand Isle, but west of GI, it holds no weight. Out of Southwest Pass Vermilion Bay, nine miles out and you're still in 20 ft of water. I never caught a red snapper in 20 ft of water. The whole red snapper issue is FUBAR. Three days!! I hope those few private recreational fishermen don't decimate the red fish population.
