Just a quick boat motor question for you. I have a older model 25hp evinrude. it had the lever on the side where you can select forward, reverse, or neutral. My problem is that when i go from reverse to neutral it passes up neutral, and goes straight to forward. Is there a part in there that I need to loosen up so the friction is not so high. Any help would be appreciated.

Was wondering what everyone on here likes to use as far as top water lures. I fish the top dog jr, but the only thing I have ever caught on it was a small speck. I want to do more top water fishing for reds, or specks because I bass fish top water, and love it.

I am looking at buying a new spinning reel for redfishing here soon. The one I had didn't work too well, gears sripped and the drag wasn't as reliable as it should have been. Not looking for a huge reel, something light. What do yall recommend as far as a good spinning reel for fishing plastics and spoons.

Was wondering if anyone knew how to get to the public launch there in golden meadow. Taking a trip down there soon, and have no idea how to get to it.

Hey motor guru's out there. I have posted reports before about my motor. I have a 50hp johnson, and recently I had the mechanic adjust the link and sync on the motor due to it reving up out of nowhere. I thought it was because it wasn't getting enough water pressure around the prop, so I bought a hydofoil stabilizer and it worked on getting the boat on plane faster. Now when i open the motor just at half throttle it sounds hesitant, it will speed up then slow down. Really frustrating when you are trying to get to your honey hole. I might want to add that the motor is a 25 inch transom, and the boat is a 20in. So when I run the motor i trim the motor where it is right even with the bottom of the boat. I have the motor as high as it will go on the transom. If the problem to yall sounds like I need to readjust the link and sync, tell me how to do it. I used to be able to run 35-37 mph, now i am pushing 22 before the hesitation. Any help out there would be greatly appreciated.please email me with any answers.

Dad and I went out yesterday to the beach. Started out in Hopedale Lagoon drifting. The wind was picking up and we were throwing everything from plastics under a popping cork to plastics slowly reeled in. only caught 1 speck a 13incher. Made the trip out to Stump Lagoon, were there were a bunch of boats stacked up, but everyone was moving. I couldn't handle the wind in my boat so we went in the deep marsh there after redfish. I caught a nice 26 in red, but released it due to the fact that we knew we were not going to catch many. How did everyone else do?

December 29, 2006 at 7:13am

Went out Saturday morning, the boat didn't hit the water till 10:30 due to the fog. Using the GPS navigated our way through Stump Lagoon, and headed to our spot. Withing seconds we were on the Specks but the action didn't last long. Had to keep moving to keep the gnats off of us. Made our way to the shoreline. The water was so clear you could see the reds swimming chasing crabs. Caught 2 nice 24" reds back to back released to fight another day. The bug spray I had was not working so we decided to call it an early day. What spray do yall use to keep the gnats off you, I had bottle of OFF but it was the tropical kind. Any help would be great.

I have Friday and Saturday off, looking to make a trip one of the two days. My normal fishing buddy is working, looking to see if anybody is needing another fishing partner. We can go in my boat or yours. call me 601-604-6708.

To those of you on here who know me, know that I know shell beach like the back of my hand. What I don't know is what to look for when the water is low like it was this past weekend. I don't want you to give out your spots, but fill me in on what kind of water i should be looking for. i.e. canals, deep water leading to a shallow flat. We went this weekend to our normal spots to find that the water was real low. searched around couldn't find the specks, and couldn't find the reds. one here and there. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry about the late report but Dad and I left out of BSM early Sat morning. We stopped in Stump Lagoon, due to some engine problems fearing to go any further. Caught a nice 22 in red right off the bat. After an hour of no fish we decided to head out to Eugene. There were a bunch of boats out there, and it amazed me that our usual banks that we fished were complete mud. the north wind had pushed all the water out. We found some coves and started to throw Artificial and caught some nice specks, in the 14-20 in range. Ended the day with 27 specks and 2 reds.

I recently put a used 50hp Johnson on the back of my 16' boat. I took it out yesterday and at a quarter throttle to half throttle it caused alot of back pressure and had water flying into the back of the boat. I trimmed the motor up and, it didn't cause this problem as bad. Was wondering what I could do to remedy this. I have the Motor fin even with the botom of the boat, and was wondering if a big fin on the motor normally used for help on planeing out, if that would help.

I was planning on making a trip down to the beach tomorrow. Looks like it will be pretty windy. Any advice on where to go to get out of the wind besides inside the house and off the water.

A buddy and I took a trip down to Shell beach on Wednesday from Meridian, MS. We woke up Wednesday morning after a great night in Capt. Frank Moore's camp. Let me tell you, what a place. Very spacious, clean, and on the water. We headed out and were on the trout within minutes. Everyone else was catching the trout on shrimp, but where we were they would not hit it at all. So we turned to artificial. I caught my first bull red on 14lb trilene. What a day. Ended up with 5 reds over 20in, and 12 specks over 15in. Thanks again Mr. Moore. We will be down there again soon.

A comment titled: I like it!! in response to a report titled: Redfish Jackpot?

I like the thought process you have going right now, and the support you have backing you. As far as the keeping the fish alive thing, it is not a problem at all if you use an ice chest. I fish the IFA(Inshore Fishing Association), LASS(Louisiana Saltwater Series), and multiple other tournament series and all we use is an ice chest. We have your basic bilge pump as an aerator, and recirc the water back around. the ice chest keeps the water cool also during those hot days.

try amber romance from Victoria Secret. It works like a charm. Like my friend Mike says, make sure your wife buys it for you, so she doesn't think anything when you come home from fishing smelling like a french wh@re.

A comment titled: I agree in response to a report titled: louisiana supports its troops

Carlosd, I agree totally. I am in the Navy stationed in Meridian, and I fish in Louisiana all the time. I am originally from LA, so when I found out that I had to pay out of state residence license to fish, and that there was no military discount, I was shocked. I am not one to look for hand outs but I believe out of all the things that the state could do for the military, a lesser price license is one of them that had been appreciated.

A comment titled: LA Sportsman in response to a report titled: Tide Charts

Many months back the louisiana Sportsman magazine had a 2-3 page article on this exact subject. How there were people complaining how the tides on the website were not exact. Just like the guy said about the moon, wind and everything else that can effect the tides. I no longer have the article but it was very informative. Most guides tell you that they concentrate only on the range of the tides not the exact tide themselves.

A comment titled: take them in response to a report titled: baby boaters?

I love posts like this because everyone is basically on the same page. I took my daughter out when she was about a year and she wants to go all the time now, and she just turned 3. however my dad is not the biggest fan of taking a young kid out fishing because he says when they get bored and antsy it is time to head to the house. also he says that if you do get in some kind of trouble you can always take care of your self, and every adult in the boat can take care of themselves.

A comment titled: depends on the officer in response to a report titled: license

Like most of you said, it depends on the officer that stopped you. I was on leave from the USS Bataan after returning from a 7 month deployment to iraq. My dad took me and a couple others that I worked with on the ship to Shell Beach. A game warden was doing routine checks and my dad was the only one that had license, and we told the officer what the situation was, and showed him our military I.D's and he let us slide, needless to say we bought one that evening.

A comment titled: sac-a-lait in response to a report titled: Record Sac-a-lait

My grandmother used to tell me that the sac-a-lait was caught out of a farm pond, and when the people arrived to record the fish they claimed that they already had ate it. Not so sure how true this is but a fish weighing exactly 6lbs and no pic or mount to prove it is really hard to beieve.

A comment titled: I agree in response to a report titled: child in boat

I agree with wilford, when they start getting restless and bored then it will make your time out on the water miserable. So just pack em up and head to the house, there is always another trip. I had my daughter out when she was real young and she loves to go fishing, but when she gets bored out there i know to head on in because not much fishing will be happening.
