These pot holes are dry most years @ this time of the year. Some of you was wondering about the duck population. I just took these pictures in North Dakota. There's a few ducks in every hole beside the road. Out of the way spots is loaded with ducks. The wildlife department said that there was a 82% hatch increase this year. So that should be more ducks. Happy hunting.

The deer have to come out during the day if they want any feed. If not the hogs will clean it up. I can get hog pics @ 7 PM. Then I go set for them & they're a no show. The last trip to the stand I saw nice buck on the way, 2 doe, 1 five, 2 six & 1 seven pointer.

August 03, 2009 at 10:01am

This is the only doe with just one fawn. Guess thats a fox, but a weird looking one.

July 22, 2009 at 1:28pm

Some getting bigger & one getting smaller.

July 21, 2009 at 10:13am

Looks like last years short tine 8 point will be a 10 point this season. In the 2nd picture the 8 point on the right is a new buck. The last picture is of last years 9 point which will be an 8 point this year.

7-point
Here's a few pictures from Caldwell Parish. They're starting to take shape.

July 01, 2009 at 3:30pm

So far they have just sat around & ate the corn. They haven't turned the feeders over yet. The smaller one even takes a nap under the feeder. They have rubbed on the cameras but have spared them so far. Hogs & bear have moved in & the deer moved out.

May 29, 2009 at 12:33pm

A comment titled: Area 2 in response to a report titled: Hunting season changes in the wind

Leave area 2 alone. I don't want to see the little nubbers being shot again for doe meat. The way it is now you can pick & take out the old does. People in area 6 might be a little trigger happy. But hey, I've always liked choice. I now kill fewer deer than when there was either sex days. Thats just me.

A comment titled: Bayou Macon WMA in response to a report titled: WARNING!!!!

About eight years ago I had a guy that hunted the private land near the WMA come in & tell me I had shot his deer. He said he shot the buck & it was on his last leg when it hit the WMA. I was a half mile inside the WMA. First of all it was on one of the permit hunts & he didn't have one. He shouldn't have been on the place to start with. Another hunter near me killed the deer & there was only one bullet hole in the deer. That guy came back with three enforcement agents which was his friends in crime & tryed to take that buck away from the hunter that killed him. They asked all the questions like where you were from & so on. When I told the agents that I lived beside a WMA they shot back with why don't you hunt there. Last time I hunted that WMA. Guess their plan worked.

A comment titled: Cuddeback all the way. in response to a report titled: Which Cam ??

I have 5 different types of Moultrie, 1 Leaf River & 4 types of Stealth Cam cameras. The C-3000 Cuddeback ( that someone took ) was by far the best. On the low end the Stealth Cam I-590 is hard to beat for the price. Just don't drop it or put it in your ATV basket.

A comment titled: Hey Res Master in response to a report titled: Montana Snow

What part of Montana are you in? Hope you're on a hunting trip. I'm in the northwest part of North Dakota & not on a hunting trip. We had a little snow mix in the rain.

A comment titled: Plenty of ducks up north. in response to a report titled: Waterfowl migration map

The people in North Dakota said the snow was way above average last winter. Pot holes are still full of water & ducks in every one of them. Yesterday I saw over 200 ducks in a hole half the size of a football field. The wildlife department said the duck population is 82% higher than last year. That should make a great season for duck hunters.

I get the powder from a feed store.

Pas
Both of those bucks are 1.5 & unless one of the grandkids get them I'll pass on them. Those are the ones I like to let grow & take out certain spikes. The deer are hard to age in my area just by looks. The buck in the center picture is 5.5 years old. I'd guess 3.5 on him, but I know he's a 5.5 year old from the yearly pictures of him.

It cost me right @ $600.00 to plant the same plot last year. The plot was planted during the first week of September.

A comment titled: Check out e-bay. in response to a report titled: Game Cameras

Rechargeable battries is the only way to go on those cameras. They will eat the batteries. Check e-bay. My set-up, 12v 11amp battery $28.00. The stealth cam power cord, $12.00. Battery charger $14.00. and 12v solar panel $21.00. All the above is shipped cost. You can get by without the solar panel. I just have them on my cameras that are out in the sun.

A comment titled: Not Winn. in response to a report titled: Got a new critter.

The western side of Caldwell Parish. For the first time last season someone took a Cuddeback camera from me. Got a picture of them on one of my other cameras, just not a good one. It was from this camera that I got the the picture of them about 70 yards on the left behind the bear. I now have some dud cameras out that don't work with one or more cameras on them. I will get them.

A comment titled: Stealth Cam Prowler. in response to a report titled: Stealth Cam Prowler Infrared Digital Scouting Camera

It's the best IR that I have. Good color pictures during the day & IR pictures way past my other IR cameras @ night. Just don't drop it or strap it to a rack on your ATV. I dropped mine once & had to send it back. Get the battery pack for it or do what I did. Get that cable for the battery hook-up. Then buy one of those scooter batteries that is 12v 11ah. That set-up will last a long time with out recharging the battery. I'll post a few pictures from mine, then you can do what you want.

A comment titled: To prove a point. in response to a report titled: DEER?????

I live next to a large WMA in north La. On a good day during the bucks only season you can see as many as 40 deer in a day. Mostly doe & small bucks & this is a anybody can hunt public land area. Last night my daughter hit 1 of the 12 deer that crossed the road coming from the WMA. Over run with deer & there is still a few people that claim we have very few deer. I don't know why I'm in a lease when I can limit out on 3 nice bucks @ my front door on public land if I wanted to.

A comment titled: I disagree on the tags. in response to a report titled: A Good Canadian Whitetail

There is five clubs that join up to our club & private land. Each one has their own set of rules which are a little different than the other. None of the clubs are under DMAP. We just do our on thing & have a great time.

Xtremewhitetails, we hunt across the line in Caldwell Parish. We've been doing different things over the years to manage our deer. We just try to keep things simple & most of the hunters are happy. By doing that we have killed some nice bucks over the years. The clubs around us started asking what we were doing & then tried a few things themself. Now on any lease around us you can kill good bucks each season. What I'm getting to here is that you can't force anyones management plan on the people. They will change, it took a little over 10 years without twisting any arms here.

As far as the tags, a joke money down the drain. All the agents were in Caldwell Parish giving us a hard time was the reason you didn't see any in Jackson Parish. Not a single ticket given out to anyone the whole season. You would think after the same enforcement agent checked you three times in a week he would learn that a lifetime hunting licence is just that. One day there was four of them on our lease. I guess one day those young boys will learn where to look for the law breakers.
