just floating this feeler out there.
yall who hunt this area, have you noticed a decline in numbers of deer? not just this season but, lets say the last 5 or so years. just a little history. the past 15 years hogs tore up our lease, now not seeing any on the stands, and very very few on camera. the ones on camera are solo.(not complaining, happy)
coyotes in years past were heard every evening. this year none.
this year it seemed like the rut never happened or it was a very short one.
checking in with yall around this area to hear your comments.
will talk more to those interested.

just a shout out to see if it is just me, or any others around where we hunt, have trouble seeing deer.

we are area 4, north of clinton, south of mississippi line by about 3(+-)miles.

this year we had no acorns. but previous years acorns were everywhere, size of golf balls. i know that is a main reason, but our lack of deer has been declining for about4 years. we have food plots.

just wondering if any fellow sportsman in that area could respond with some useful info.

thx, WB

what happened to the good ole days when you went grocery shopping, and you purchase was bagged and placed in your cart for you?
now days, when the bags are full while you are still putting grocereys on the belt, the cashier waits on you to put them in your cart. then she looks at you, like a calf looking at a new gate.
can I get an amen.

made one of my few trips this year, and did well. the crew i put together was myself, stringbean and stringbeans boyfriend limabean. got there late the 24th, and fished 15min. before the sun fell. but had 3 keepers on plastics...

next morning bucket full of minnows, and headed out, took 2.5 hrs. to find them but ran out of live then started with the plastics, and did not miss a beat. had about sixty with 10 huge whites.
my watch alarm went off to end our morning, due to stringbean having class that evening, had to get back to lsu.

will be at it again this weekend, with butterbean. anyone cooking saturday evening while watching the bama game under there rooms?

where you at poppincork/and justwant2eat/ pirate ship capt???

also, will there be any bama fans there at boudreauxs?

i was thinking about trying vines in mississippi for some deer processing.
my question is , is it against the law to cross lines with meat and not have a ms license? or have the ice cheast tagged?

Lafourche officials frustrated by more hidden BP oil

David Blake Reporting

BP is sending cleanup crews to Fourchon Beach because Tropical Storm Lee caused some erosion that has revealed more oil. Lafourche Parish President Charlotte Randolph says she is disappointed but not surprised.

''There were exposed tar mats as well as tar balls that have washed up,' she said.

Randolph, while pleased with the response from BP, wonders if this is always going to happen when there's a storm in the Gulf.

''Yes it is frustrating to know that this is not over,' said Randolph.

BP sent in a crew of 90 workers and some heavy equipment to work seven days a week on the clean up. Randolph says this is a sensitive area and just hearing reports about oil leftovers can hurt both commercial and recreational fishing activity, which in turn hurts the economy of Lafourche Parish.

outboard alarm....steady

15 min run wot, slow down to idle and alarm sounds maybe 5 seconds then off.
i kill motor, restart and and put in gear, alarm sounds again. raise motor check intake ports, they are clean, rip off the cover and put a visual on things, looks ok, check oil level, good.

i tell butterbean drop the trolling motor and start fishing while i read the manual. he puts a couple in the boat then i start fishing letting motor cool for about 2 hrs. then crank up and head back to landing wot for 15mins and no issues. any outboard heads out there experience this? or have knowledge of the culprit? temp sensor etc....
last summer replaced h20 pump impeller etc...

A comment titled: Re: north of clinton, La Deer numbers in response to a report titled: north of clinton, La Deer numbers

thanks for the input so far.
to touch on some of yall's points.
about the plots and corn feeders.one of our best plots with rye grass on it we had not one pic of a deer or hog, and it was next to an active deer corn feeder.
when I say I am north of Clinton, I am 9 miles north. hunting right under 400 acres. no pressure from surrounding leases, meaning no shots, no atv traffic, no dogs running, nothing.
I was also thinking of diseases but have not heard of any for the area. does wlf have a site that publishes these findings?

A comment titled: plots in response to a report titled: north of clinton, La Deer numbers

we have always done rye grass, this year we tried two or three spots with a mix, they did not even touch it.
I know its not just us, we have heard very few shots this year around the lease. hell, really don't even see them when its dark driving on 67.

A comment titled: yep in response to a report titled: good ole days?

yep, I agree the service at Winn-Dixie and mom and pop store's are much much better. the stores are cleaner and the cans and grocery's are perfectly stacked. they are a tad bit more expensive, but worth it if you can afford it. I live in the city of central, but work in geismar and for example, harvest grocery store is one of those mom and pop's.

sunday.... fishing limited, due to some beauty thunder storms popping up at will.

Monday a.m.......2 reds and 30 trout, never had to put one on the golden ruler. caught them on some of terry's finest bull minnows. did put one spec on the scale, 4.6 lbs. all on the incoming slow tide. only saw 2 boats all morning. broke one of my best rods, at least it was on a fish and not stepped on....

Monday evening zip-o, put the 16' bay ripper on the trailor, cleaned fish, tore up a hamburger steak at leeville reastuarnt, and passed out.
