What is the nearest public boat launch to fish Caernarvan? Thanks in advance.

April 04, 2017 at 8:49am

Looking for advice, not anybodies hot spot or honey hole. My son (12) and I put in for the lottery gun hunt on Tensas and got picked. I have never hunted the area. Just wondering what type of landscape is it? Oak sloughs or pine woods? Should we focus efforts in the northern, central or Southern portion of refuge? I read the rules and no limb saws allowed, so wondering how effective would a climber be? Just looking for some info from anybody who has hunted the refuge. Thanks in advance! Feel free to email me if you dont want info posted to the public. jofauc383@yahoo.com

Planning a fishing trip to Orange Grove/Bayou Black area, just wondering if all the hype on here a few months ago was true? Are the Orange Grove canals really gated off? 70 mile canal? Thanks in advance.

Any word on the Sacalait bite around Lake Bouef or Lake Des Allemands? I went try them last week but only got a few before the wind forced me to stop fishing. Just wondering if anybody has had much luck there?

Guys please provide comments/reviews of duck hunting shotguns. I am looking for reviews on Browning A5, Benelli, or Remington Versa Max. I am looking to see how they hold up to the elements of duck hunting Louisiana marshes, recoil, and how they feel when shouldered. Thanks in advance.

I just recently noticed that LWF website no longer has the map for the limited access area for Pass A Lout. When I refered to this years handbook it simply states refer to WMA map. So my question is, Does Pass A Loute still have a Limited Access area? Or has it been removed and just not been made public? I am headed there during the second split, so any reports from that area would be helpful also.

September 04, 2013 at 12:22pm

I know it a few months til most will begin to think about duck season, but I am already getting the itch. I just wanted to get a thread going about which place do people think is better, Pass A Loute in Venice or Atchafalya Delta in Morgan city???? Every year my son and I take a week long trip to one or the other chasing ducks. They each have their pros and cons, just wanting to get others thoughts and opinions. Feel free to comment about hunting conditions, type and amount of birds, camping conditions, and crowds.

Is Cypress cove marina open with back down boat launches? I made my mind up today that I will be hunting the WMA in Venice for the open of teal season. wont be able to make it down there for Saturday morning hunt but I will be there shortly after daylight, set up camp at the camp ground, and make a evening hunt then Sunday morning hunt. Wondering if anybody else is planning on hunting the WMA? If so, where are you camping?? Hoping for full limits and safe hunts. I will have my 14 yr old nephew and this will be my son's (7 yrs old) first year of shooting a gun in the duck blind. Hope he gets to bust him a teal on the water.

I wasnt ready for the season to end last year and these summer days seem to just drag on. However I have been looking north for the cold fronts to start rolling in and remembering the great hunting season I shared with my family last year.

Capt. Paul,
I am hoping you can provide me with a safe proven tract line or a map highlighted with a passage way from Venice marina to Head of Passes. I am not looking for anybodys hunting or fishing spot, simply looking for a way to stay out the river as much as possible and not tear up my outboard. Thanks in advance and hope you can help me.

I am looking to buy a 15-16 ft Kirk's mud boat hull. It could have rigging or not. I have a mud boat now just looking to replace the hull. So if you have a hull with a blown motor or happen to have a kirk hull that was a project and want to get rid of it, contact me. Not looking for anything for free and willing to pay fair price depending on condition of hull. Please respond here or 504-415-6227 Thanks

Ok guys, I have to buy a new truck due to totaling mine in a wreck. I am undecided between the Chevy 2500 or the Ford F-250. I like the way the fords look but i have always been a chevy guy. I cant make up my mind. Looking for any pro's and con's. I may also get a 1500 Z-71 or equizilent F-150. But i would like to stick with the desiel motor. Thanks in advance.

I was looking into booking a hunt on Giles Island but the more i looked at the bucks they have been killing the less impressed i became. It looks like the quality of bucks they killed last year compared to the bucks from 2005 and before is far less impressive. I am just curious how this could be? Surly the place is managed, and i am sure the herd is well taken care of. I mean hell the deer are on an island for christ sake. So i am not bashing Giles Island as i have never hunted with them. I am just wondering if anybody has any ideas on how you can manage sum land for trophy deer and continue to produce less impressive deer every year?? Thanks

I just recieved confirmation that I got picked for a non-resident muzzelloader mule deer tag in New Mexico. I am going with a group of guys from work. Since hearing the good news i am just wondering if I am the only one that is getting the itch to get in the woods? I know it is 100 deg. outside, but hey I am ready. Anybody else going on any out of state hunts? Just looking to start a hunting thread.

A comment titled: Fool Proof in response to a report titled: seasoning in boiled crawfish???

One big bag of Louisiana seasoning, add half the bag in with potatoes and boil for 10 min.
Add crawfish into boiling water and the other half of Louisiana seasoning. once water is back boiling, boil for 5-7 min. Soak for at least 11 min. Hence 7/11. I usually spray cool water on the outside of my pot to help stop the cooking process and 'shock' the crawfish, making them soak up the seasoning. They will be flavored good for average crowd and will peel great.

A comment titled: Pathfinder in response to a report titled: Coastal Zone moved back a week

I am a public land only duck hunter, I hunt hard and travel to any public land spot in SE LA thats holding duck. I am not a need to kill my limit every time kinda hunter. I would rather kill only 2 drake widgons than a limit of ringnecks. To me, it seems that if you hunt hard and are adaptable to the lower water levels, you kill better quality ducks in late Jan. But you gotta go where the ducks are. You can sit in the same blind that you been hunting since the opener, you gotta move. I will agree early season is great for full limits of young, not fully plummaged ducks. Just my two cents.

Happy to see it pushed back a week. That will allow for us to hunt those hard cold fronts that arrive in later Jan.

A comment titled: Venice in response to a report titled: Pass A Loute vs. Atchafalaya Delta

Thanks for the feedback OZONE. Yeah we went to Venice last year around Thansgiving. Camped off of Dennis pass. Found some decent ducks but they were scarce. Of course Venice got hit hard last year also with a hurricane. I have a 24' boat that we go down there with, so we are ok with that. However, I did take 4 big waves from an offshore supply boat in the boat last year while traveling the river. Pretty nerve racking. Venice is a great place to hunt though.
