We made a couple good hunts on lake catahoula

January 03 at 8:20am

Would like to give catahoula a try. Can someone tell me what area of the lake would be best not to disturb someone that has a blind. I hear they don't like outsiders

I'm looking for some general information on Lake Larto. Is it a good place for camp for fishing and water sports (swimming, skiing, pontoon boat cruising etc)? Do the camps flood?

Thanks

I have a 23hp GD surface drive that I need to have checked out. Anyone knows of someone in the Thibodaux/Houma area that I can bring it to?

Never hunted this side, plan on scouting it this weekend. Has anyone been out there lately/ any birds ? Do you launch at end of the road ?

Thanks

Scout PAC this morning, not so good. Saw 1 flock of teal 12-15 and 1 other pair. Saw a few big ducks but that's about it....

My dad left me and my sons his guns when he passed away. One of them is a Savage 12ga auto - model 7554. The only thing I could find is that it was made between 1949 and 1958. It's in fair-good condition, I would like to refinish it or have someone refinish it for me

We decided to give turkey hunting a go. I entered my 9 year old in the youth lottery hunt at Sherburne. We would like to make another hunt at one of the other WMA. Probably one with a different terrian.........tangipahoa parish school board wma, Sandy Hollow or Ben's Creek. Can anyone tell me if one would be better than the others. I started looking online at maps of the areas...aerials, topos etc. When we go scout what should I look for ? Thick areas, open areas, creeks etc? What time should I scout.....early morning, late afternoon or all day?

Someone had a camp for sale in this area and stated:

Lots of state land for deer, duck, squirrel, coon, & hog hunting & a great place to fish & crawfish

Can someone tell me about this area? How's the hunting?Approx. Locations? Is this a WMA? Are there any campgrounds?

Me and my two boys started duck hunting this year and we had a blast. We didn't always kill a bunch but we sure had a great time. Now that duck season is all most over we started wondering what we could hunt next..........What about turkey?? Can anyone give us a little info on turkey hunting and what WMA areas we might have some luck in. We're located in Thibodaux, so I know we're probably going to have to travel a little.

Thanks

I'm no scientist so that was just my opinion...................Why does Louisiana open BEFORE some of the northern states? That make absolutely no sense but I'm sure there's a reason. I'm going to expand my hunting to quail and pheasants...................No Migration needed

I know it's not possible right now but I'd like to see it stay open until at least Feb 10 or so. I've pretty much given up on hunting the marsh in south Louisiana. If the north wind blow above 7mph I have NO water got hope for a south wind. I'm going to concentrate my hunting efforts in central Louisiana....................If you know anyone that has some land to lease up that way let me know

No water is not an excuse for north states being open after louisiana. I had days before the season started with no water............The north wind blows at all times of the year

January 26 at 7:23am

That's defintely a good point pushpaddlebangbang............There are areas with some great habitat but plenty needs to be restored. Numerous WMAs have waterfowl areas that are closed because the habitat is dying, levees need work, pumps don;t work etc. I think the FEDS feel like our habitat is fading away and won't address the issues north of us, they just use our lacking habitat as an excuse. If there's funds available to fix Louisiana's habitat that's a plus then we can tackle the issue that we know are keeping ducks from migrating

Yes I do have a light bar and run it when needed. The 2 other guys I hunt with also have them, I've been in front and back and never bother me. It may need to be adjusted

My problem was with the the dummy running from Tiger pass down past Main Pass in my rooster cone with the damn light in my eyes. ...................

How is the dummy's light in your eyes? He's behind you

Larry is incognito to no surprise. I’m sure he’ll be back to post some numbers at some point but if anyone is expecting him to get on board and try to help don’t hold your breath

I never was a DU member and never will be. I was a member of Delta and will be renewing my membership. I can remember driving up I49 towards Alexandria back in the early 90s and being in awe at the ducks in the ag fields. Where did they go? The ag fields are still there. I hunt South of houma and central Louisiana, the marshes in South Louisiana are basically gone but the ag fields in Central Louisiana are still there.

Hit Man

You can't change the flyway migration patterns

That's totally false

A comment titled: Re: My Opinion on no ducks in response to a report titled: My Opinion on no ducks

I mentioned those because of the habitat in them and the surrounding areas. I chatted with Jgoins1981 this morning and told him about a couple of hunts we made in lake Catahoula this year , our first time there. We had 2 pretty good hunts, mostly canvasback but we did kill a few greenheads, pintails and wigeons. Talked to a couple of game wardens the second day at the launch and he was surprised at what we killed. He said there’s really NOT MANY BIRDS, we’re NOT getting the migration like we use to. He also said there weren’t any around where he lived. I lived in Alexandria in 1991-92 when we would visit back home I can remember driving back on Sunday afternoon the ag fields were covered with ducks. Those fields are still there but where’s the ducks??

I’ll put my 2 cents in………..La Wildlife and Fisheries with DU can put MORE money into fixing key habitat areas in Louisiana in WMAs and / or NWR NOT private land. Some that come to mind are Boeuf, Dewey Wills, Russel l Sage, Yancey, Sabine NWR, Lacassine NWR. Then stop putting so much $$ into private land north of Louisiana and make ice eaters and heater ILLEGAL

If DU wants to create better habitat it should be on public land as much as possible…The greentree area at Dewey Wills WMA wasn't flooded this year because the trees are dying
