I have an aluminum bass boat that I would like to show some TLC. Looking for feedback on using a liner type coating(Rhino or Line-X) as opposed to a marine paint. Not sure if or how using a liner would affect overall performance.

Looking to make a weekend trip in the New Orleans/Grand Isle area to chase specs and reds. I'll be fishing a 16ft alum bass boat so I'm not looking to go out too far(maybe if there's a platform or 2 that would be accessible and fairly easy to reach) mainly looking for marsh and open water. As of now, I'm leaning towards Fouchon/Grand Isle. Any advise as to areas that can be safely fished in a vessel of this size is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Looking to purchase my first fish finder / GPS combo. Any opinions(just that) on which features work well(DI, SI, etc.,). Not looking for many bells and whistles, just the basics for now to find fish and marking waypoints. Unit will be mounted on a 16ft bass used for inshore sw and fw fishing. Any opinions are welcomed and greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I have a 40 hp Merc that hasn't run since November(gas left in tank with no treatment). Put muffs on and started engine with no problems but it wont run at idle. After starting, I can get down to approximately 1000rpm before motor kills. I would like to try running Seafoam Motor Treatment to see if this will correct the issue without having to tear anything down to resolve this issue. Any advise is greatly appreciated.

Looking to purchase new battery(s) for my boat. I have a 16ft bass boat and I would like to lighten the weight in the boat as much as possible. Currently there is a 2 battery setup but I would like to go to a one battery setup. I'm looking at an agm type dual purpose battery for this purpose. Any information and advise is greatly appreciated.

I'm looking into purchasing a boat in the near future but I have a few questions that some of you may be able to help shed some light on. For starters, I fish fresh and saltwater about equally but may be inclined to do more saltwater after f purchase. Second, is Center Console(Bay Boat) vs. Bass Boat(Aluminium-Tracker or Express). Third is the size. I would like to stay around the 17-18 ft range as I won't really have a more than 3 passengers tops at any time. I fish the waters from Venice to Houma area as well as the Atchafalaya Basin. Any and all opinions are welcomed. Thanks.

Wife and I looking for a nice place to go for Bream and maybe Sac's this weekend. Been a while as far freshwater fishing so I'm not too familiar with bank fishing spots for Bream and Sac's. This time of year I would be saltwater fishing. Anywhere within an hour or so of the Plaquemine(Iberville Parish)/ Baton Rouge area. Any advice would be appreciated. Not asking for anyone's 'Honey Hole', just a nice place to catch a few keepers. Thanks and be safe on the water this weekend.

Thanks Mandevillian. My original thoughts were for both inside and out. May be not so much texture(non-slip grip) on the outside. Currently the interior is carpeted with plywood underneath. Would this product adhere to wood surfaces? Maybe something to think about for that price. Thanks again for the info.

Plans are to fish the area(s) near the new bridge and Marshmasters area. Probably wont run across Lake Jesse to SW Canal or any further south for that. Any info on restricted access in these areas?
Thanks Wilson

Thanks Wilson. Would have never thought about that. Plans to try this weekend.

Thanks HFF! Great offer as you can never have enough help and advice on the water from people familiar with the area. I've never fished the area before but my plans are exactly what you described. Using satellite images, it appears there is plenty of marsh, canals and ponds. Plans for this weekend have been rescheduled for next weekend but I'll definitely reach out to you later this week/weekend for any advice. Not looking for honey holes, just safe sound advice. Not a fish story if you cant tell it. Thanks again HFF and good luck to you if you make it out this weekend.

Thanks Cooperhead. Not risking it to fish the beach or Elmers, at least not until my boat gets bigger. I think I'll fish some spots between GM and Leeville. Looked at some satellite images of the area and it looks like it will offer just what I'm looking for. Marsh and a few platforms scattered about along with the bridges. I'm definitely staying as far inshore as possible. Any information on water depth and current? Canceling my trip for the weekend as the weather looks as if this weekend may bring some showers. Thanks for the info and good luck on your next trip out.

Thanks Visco! I have few units that I'm interested in. A Hummingbird Helix7 SI and a couple of the Garmin units. Features such as preloaded and upgradeable mapping and waypoint marking are important as the areas I fish are full of marsh and channels.

Thanks A.R.

I'll remember to take a look at this if a little tear down is necessary to fix issue. If these parts are easily accessible, I'll look into checking these parts and changing. If not the issue, just for piece of mind. Thanks for the advise.

Thanks Samari.
I was planning on adding Seafoam to my tank due to not really knowing if the gas tank it self may need cleaning/attention as well. After adding new gas on yesterday, I'm at approximately 3/4 full (7.5 gal tank). So I shouldn't be surprised or afraid when I see lots of smoke? I would like to try this and run it for about 10 - 15 minutes intervals until I empty the tank and start with fresh gas(no ethanol)mix. Any advise is appreciated.

Thanks vicious! The Optima battery has been getting some good reviews. Definitely one that's on my list. Thanks again. I have a 54lb trolling motor and a 40 hp outboard. Will be used to run tm, bilge, live well and gps(coming soon) so I want to make sure that I have enough power for all applications.

Good info. 19ft may give me the width and provide a stable enough platform for the wife to feel comfortable running out to the rigs. As for freshwater fishing, will this be too much boat?

Thanks guys. The info in 'chop' was something I wasn't considering. I guess that I wasn't really thinking about going out too far, but who am I kidding. I'm sure there will be times that I want to make that run a little off the coast. I do agree that a v bottom would be best overall although I like flat bottoms for the marsh like you stated. 19 is on the max side of what I want to get into as this will be pretty much a starter for me to really learn about upkeep. I'll take a look at those that you mentioned. Thanks again.
