Me and the wife made a quick trip the other day. We both so busy that we hardly ever get go together anymore. She hasn't lost her touch of course because I may have caught more but every fish she caught was bigger than mine. The bite was kinda slow and most where caught on California 420 lizards and crawfish colored jigs with speedcraw trailers.

Well the weather was horrible Saturday as the cold front blew in. It was raining off and on so we went to some friends to cook. Me and my buddy got through bbqing and still had about 2 hours of daylight so we decided to hell with the rain and went bass fishing on my lease. It was slow the first hour and I had picked up one or two as did he. The rain stopped and they came alive. I was using a jig which has became my number one bait since I started using then about 3 years ago. He never fished with one and struggled getting the hang of it but I ended up catching around 15 to his 3 on a infringer spinnerbait. Lol he said he's definitely going to start practicing with em from now on. I love catching fish on a jig. The fish should be laying out eggs soon how it looks.

Took the wife and kids fishing this weekend with some shiners. It was non-stop action for my kids. Just as fast as they could cast they were getting bites. I bass fished a little when I had a chance and caught 5 pretty quick on a black and blue jig with speedcraw trailer. White perch were caught fishing about 16' deep under a cork.. Every trip has gotten a little bit better and better.

Went Sunday evening with my kids and caught a few bass and a nice white perch on a crankbait.

Had a chance to go make a trip today with my wife. We did pretty good for the first trip. Caught most on California 420 and a black and blue jig. Looking forward to this weekend the water is going down and the fish are moving up. Good luck to y'all.

Took my daughter to a stand where we been getting video of a good buck making scrapes. I really didn't expect that 10 minutes after daylight he would show up but he did and she couldn't get on him in time before he got across the lane. We sat tight and at 8:32 I seen his horns cone out the woods I hurried up and got the gun out the window and told sister to get on him, she got ready and i did a lil whistle and nothing he kept walking,so I whistled pretty loud and he locked up broadside and sister touched her off. He almost went down but made it out the lane. My wife and boys were in the woods squirrel hunting so we went and got them and all trailed him up. Super proud of my baby girl.

Been bringing my kids frogging here and there on my lease since the water fell. Been doing pretty good even though they let more get away than they catch. Sure is fun watching em try oh.

July 13, 2016 at 10:11am

Me and a buddy made a trip the other day after work. We were jigging banks for flounder. Still a little fresh where we were due to all the rain here lately. We caught a few bass early then found a bank that was holding some flounder. We kept 4 slabs over 15' and turned loose 7 under that. I've always been a bass fisherman but I have to say them suckers sure can fight good. Good luck

Don't know if this will work or not but worth a try. I was looking for a hunting lease that might be interested in letting me pay half the dues and hog hunt with dogs on. I am president of SouthSide hunting club in Starks on Sabine river and here the last two years high water (Toledo Bend) has kept us from hunting. I am just trying to have another place to go. I only want to hunt from the end of deer season to the end of July. That way dont bother deer hunters. I don't use a gun and will bring out every hog we catch. I will treat the land just like mine and not touch anyone's property and follow all rules without any problems. I just need another place to hunt my dogs . My dogs are trash broke and anyone on the lease is welcome to hunt with me. Only request is no guns. My dogs are too important to me. If anyone is interested please call or text me at 337-488-9370. I work construction so a text might get a call back faster. Don't know if anyone is interested but its worth a try. Thank yall and be safe.

This hog had been coming to the feeder regularly. Finally got some time to go try him and had a great night. We turned our 2 best dogs out and they hunted great. Ended up baying him in a thicket and I eased in with my 44 magnum and sealed the deal. It was alot harder to get him out the woods than to kill him,but we managed and it took 3 coolers to hold all the meat. He was definitely the fattest Barr I've ever killed.

I was just curious if anyone had ever made a knife..? An old welder at work gave me a German made air saw blade so I took some time and cut it out for a knife... I didn't use a grinder at all because I didn't know if you should get the metal hot or not? I cut the blade out with a porta-band. Then put in a vise and used a file to lay back an edge. Then honed it with a wet-rock. Wish I would've used a deer horn for the handle. It gets very sharp but haven't got to cut meat yet to see if it will hold an edge. I thought it was fun to do at least and enjoyed it. Here's a picture of it finished. I might should have shortened it up some.

February 22, 2016 at 1:46pm

I caught and cut this hog about 4 years ago behind my house. He has showed back up and has put on some weight. All I am waiting on now is a day off and then I'm bring my best dog and 2 bulldogs down there and see I we can't pay him a little visit. I guess he didn't get the memo the corn is for deer only.. Good hunting guys. Hopefully I will have more pics soon of him hanging from the tree.

February 16, 2016 at 6:23am

Well with deer season ending its time for some fast paced action. Me and my wife took the dogs out this weekend and stayed in the hogs. Ended up catching a sow, a gilt, and a real nice Barr hog we cut last year. Looking forward to this weekend. I always liked pork better than beef anyways!

January 12, 2016 at 8:03am

Rifle season opened up Saturday morning and I hunted all weekend. I am the president of my hunting club and made a deal with myself this year to try to only kill 8pt or better only. I saw 2 small bucks(4pt and spike)that morning and couple does that evening. Sunday morning I watched a good buck cross by my wife's stand about 500 yds away. Then I watched a spike and 2 does for a while eating corn. So that evening I told my daughter to come on that she should be able to get a shot on a deer. Well we get set up around 5 and about 6:20 3 does come out. We get the gun out the window and I tell her to take her time and squeeze the trigger. She touches her off and I see the ol mule kick and the deer barely makes it across the pipeline. Man I swear I have never seen her so happy and excited in my life. She was shaking so bad and said she thought her heart was about to explode. She wanted to cry but she couldn't stop smiling to do it. We went down and I showed her how to take a blood trail slow all the way to her prize. Thank you lord for allowing us to have this opportunity in this fine state! Yall be safe.

This nice boar came up in my dads back yard trying to get in the pen with two sows he has for meat hogs. I brought my bulldog over there yesterday evening and sucked him up. He was a handful for me and my old dad( pretty much by myself)but I caught and cut him. My neighbor put him in a stock trailer for sausage later on.

October 15, 2015 at 7:42am

Me and my wife went the other day after a rain and caught a few decent fish on swim jigs.

September 10, 2015 at 1:13pm

September 10, 2015 at 12:48pm

Toledo Bend finally decided to shut the rapids off. We fish the river (lakes off it) and its been flooded all year, but its falling out now. Me and my boy went and caught 6 keepers this evening pretty quick on black humdinger spinner baits. Its real muddy but they still was biting good. I just hope it stays down for a while. Oh yeah 5 of the 6 fish was full of crawfish. Gonna try my luck in the am. Good luck to yall!

May 16, 2015 at 9:23pm

Me and my youngest boy went out Sunday morning to have a lil fun. He thought he was the best fisherman in Louisiana. We caught a few small bass, ol gasper gou,and a few hybrid bass. It was awesome!

May 13, 2015 at 2:43pm

We live in Stark's Louisiana and our youth season started yesterday and we been preparing just like everyone else does. Our deer started scraping September 12 and we been getting plenty of Buck and doe pics at a scrape line parallel to the old pipeline we hunt. I knew we had a chance of seeing a deer as long as we hunted. We'll as luck has it last week I was put on 7-12s for 3 months. So byebye hunting season. Yesterday at dinner operations lost all power in the control room and sent us home. I couldn't get home fast enough to get Cody ready and get our butts in the woods. We got to the stand at 4:30 and settled in for the evening. We saw a few squirrels and then at 7 I caught a glimpse of a deer cutting through the tree's straight to our lane. I grabbed Cody's 223 single barrel and stuck it out the window. I told him get ready a deer is about to step out. We got ready and he came out about 80yds and stood broadside. I told him to put it on his shoulder and squeeze the trigger. He touched her off and the deer left there looking good my heart sank. We waited as long as we could and decided to go look. I saw where the deer left out and immediately picked up blood we waited a lil while and took up the trail. He went 40yds and piled up my son was so excited he couldn't move. We drug the 4pt out and loaded him up. Definitely one of the best days of our life. He is hooked for life with a case of Buck fever. I may never get to shoot again.

I live in Starks Louisiana. It's about 15 minutes north of interstate 10 on the Sabine river. I'm over hunting club south of highway 12 all the way to the river and that's the name of it Southside Hunting Club. We probably caught 10 more fish that was to little and all the fish were caught from the bank walking and in about 2 feet of water. When I filleted them 4 fish were full of eggs.

Congratulations buddy. I'm from Starks and hunt the river bottom also. That is quite the accomplishment man for around here. He is a very good deer for our area with bow or gun. I've tried for 2 years with a bow and nothing but hogs.

November 02, 2016 at 7:25pm

I would see what direction the deer are traveling at night and try to climb on their trail ahead of em somewhere. I'm sure they are on their feet in the day time it's just probably not out in the opening. I started hunting thickets here the last couple years and its changed my whole out look on hunting. There's alot more to it than seems if you want to truly be successful.

I live on the Sabine River in Starks Louisiana. Its the Louisiana and Texas state line about 20 miles north of I-10.... We catch Kentucky bass or Kentucky redeyes' everytime we go out. They don't grow very long but they will get to 3 to 4 lbs.. Here's a picture of some we caught this year. They love crawfish crankbaits and spinnerbaits. There a plenty largemouth In the river too. You usually catch both.

A comment titled: Re: Big Barr Hog in response to a report titled: Big Barr Hog

I am definitely not denying the fact that there's a hog problem happening, and its hurting alot more than just animals and farmers.I think that it has alot to do with how 20 years ago a man could hunt anywhere he wanted. There was no leases or private huntingclubs just open land. My dad had an ear mark for hogs through the court house and it was legal for them to roam free and against the law for anyone else to kill. Every weekend (besides deer season) we was up there baying hogs marking them and cutting boars. Then the timber company started leases and limited access that all stopped. I have nothing against hunting leases I am the president to SouthSide hunting club in Starks and love it. Point being when Everyone put stands and feeders up they were in heaven. You know half the people on a lease hardly hunt and then there is 9 months of no pressure. Of course they multiplied. Hogs are ten times smarter than people think that's why you always see more deer than hogs on a stand.

Well Bayou I am gonna have to say that every man is entitled his own opinion at least we still got that, but I'm going to have to disagree with you on being stereotypical and saying I'm responsible for a hog problem. I have hunted my entire life and hog hunting is just as important to me as deer or anything else.Watching my dogs work and provide for me is better than any ol 8 pt. buck. My family has had hog dogs since before I was born. I can guarantee you that I have killed more hogs than most hunters will, but one thing you wont see me do is kill a boar hog other than to protect my dogs. It makes me sick to my stomach thinking about how people just shoot em to lay and rot and walk off saying man we are doing our part. The hog in the picture is a Barr, that means I castrated him(no more baby making) and you have never tasted better meat than a big fat Barr hog. Maybe I'm just a dumb country boy but the way I look at it is if I'm blessed enough to be able to go in the woods anytime of year and bring fresh meat home to my wife and kids why in the hell would I want to kill em all off. Remember it takes a gun to kill a deer but It takes balls to catch a hog.

Hey buddy my uncle retired from Lanxess this past year and He was looking for something to hunt after deer season. He started trapping coons, coyotes,& bobcats on his lease and mine. I know that if you take your time and skin and put up the hide right you will make more money than you think. He knows a buyer that came once a month to feed store and was getting around 12 for coon hide and close to 100 for bobcat... If your interested I'll find out for sure b/c like I said it was him doing it not me, but might be able to get you a number for your hides...

Yes Sir you have got the true meaning of life figured out. My Old man was a hard butt and took hunting too serious to tag me along and when he did he constantly hollered at me for doing something wrong. So I promised when I had kids too never be like that and I haven't. I have 3 kids and my oldest 2 have killed deer at age 6 and 9. The look on there faces when we are in the woods is got to be what heaven is like. I sure do appreciate you for keeping em in it. If we all try a lil harder maybe America won't be so bad in 15 years.

My son shoots a 223 crack barrel. Its a good gun and shoots flat absolutely no kick. My wife shoots a 7-08 and so do I. They have a little more kick but alot more knock down power. But you are shooting a 55 grain bullet vs a 140 grain bullet. Either one is good I would personally buy him the 7-08 because you have a little more room for error.

Hey buddy I've been hunting with dogs since I was big enough to go. Anyone can go buy a hog dog and have fun. It's a totally different ball game when you raise up your own dogs and bond with them and watch them work to please you. What I would do I buy 2 young puppies and just start bringing them in hog sign. There will be alot of goose egg hunts at first then they will learn what you are looking for and start finding hogs. You can put them in a bay pen a couple times but not too many because that makes them ruff. I'm on s turnaround now when I get off your more than welcome to come make a hunt with me. My ideas of hog hunting are way different than most people who have a dog that barks at a hog and they tell everyone they have a hog dog.
