New To Sportsman Network?

About a week late but thought I would post this picture of the Red / Blood Moon just in case you missed it. It was a sight to see. :)

I had no idea the sport of Hawking existed in Louisiana. Did you know there is a species of Hawk that is social and hunts together like a wolf pack? It was an incredible sight to witness and experience.

Hope you enjoy the adventure.

In case you have never seen a pair of Greater Scaup I believe I have a photo of a pair. They were in the canal alongside Hwy 27 just south of the Wetland Walkway (Sabine National Wildlife Refuge) Saturday afternoon.

Pictures here http://tfinnie.blogspot.com/

Please let me know if you feel they are not Greater Scaup.

Thought I would share this picture taken yesterday of my friend's dog holding a point on some Quail. It makes you want to grab your shotgun and get ready for an explosion from the underbrush

The Gadwall Duck is an attractive and welcome duck for waterfowl hunters.

Additionally, someone informed me there is a DU Duck Calendar for SW Louisiana Region. I am considering donating some waterfowl images for this project but have no idea of who to speak with / contact. Any ideas?

See http://tfinnie.blogspot.com/ for picture.

It is not the most glamorous duck by far but is unique in its own way.

The hen Mallard is certainly overshadowed by her male counterpart but isn't she gorgeous in her own way?

Already looking forward to next year

In case you haven't seen a rare-to-Louisiana Cinnamon Teal here is a picture of one that I photographed in SW Louisiana recently. It is not as good as seeing it in person but it is the next best thing.

My neighbor graciously asked my grandson Grant and me to accompany him and his father to hunt ducks on the opening day of duck season. It was truly an adventure for Grant as he had never experienced anything quite like this. He enjoyed watching the ducks, watching the dog work, and riding shallow water in the Gator-tail boat all while building memories. He is a crack shot with his BB gun and hopes to acquire a .410 and give it a 'shot'. We came back with eight Gray Ducks and a Mottled Duck. A great time was had by all

Duck season is just around the corner.

Will there be a photo contest for waterfowl this year? It would be nice to see some of the photos captured by our members of the splendid ducks and geese in our state.

It's always great to see Pintails with their long necks, long tails and wings cupped coming in for a landing.
