i recently just purchased a new bow. i got the bow rigged and paper tuned right away. after all the tuning i noticed my bow was still making a extradinary amount of string vibration. i have all the nessecary vibration dampeners on the bow including a diamond hush kit, string stop, and string silencers but the darn string is vibrating like i dont have anything on it. i checked to make sure everything was fastened down tight on the bow. i have no idea why it is giving off so much vibration. i have been doing a little bit of research and have been reading alot about cam timing. but my bow is a single cam so cam timing shouldnt be an option of concern right??? any help would be appreciated!

Someone posted in the classifieds that they were looking for names and numbers of people who custom build flat boats, preferebly for duck hunting. And I was wondering the same thing because I want to get a boat custom built for my gator tail so I figured I would start a thread since a few people were wondering this. Can any of you guys recommend an boat builders including name and number? Prices? Also, any experience with a boat they built? Any info appreciated. Thanks.

I am planting some late soybean plots this weekend, a littler later than planned but I'll take what I can get. I've never planted soybeans before and keep hearing I need to inoculate the seeds before planting. I've been doing alot of research on this the past few days. Have any of you inoculated soybeans before you planted them? And where did you get the inoculants from?? I can't find anywhere that has bean inoculants and would like to ind some or this weekend. Thanks.

Does anyone here own or have ever rode in a 23hp gatortail that was modified? I recently bought a 23 gatortail a few months back and love it but want a little more speed. And some places I hunt don't allow motors over over 25hp so I can't switch to a 35hp. Any body have any experience with a modded 23??

I have a 12 week old chocolate that I'm training but he is very difficult to handle and keep his attention. Everytime we do a training session I can't keep his attention and he doesn't listen. He wants to run his own program and go bite everything. I read in Water Dog your suppose to show the dog whose boss and that the dog has boundaries. But my pup seems very rebellious. I even put a choke chain on him to control him more but it didn't seem to help. It actually seemed to piss him off and make him more uncontrolable. I have only gotten him to pay attention a small handfull of times during sessions and he seemed to pick things up quick when I did have his full attention. So my question is how do I beat his rebellious attitude so I can get his undivided attention during our training sessions?? Any help is appreciated.

Does anybody know where to buy round-up ready corn and soybean? I plan to plant corn and soybean this spring and have heard that the round-up ready is the best to plant. Has anyone had any experience with this? Thanks.

March 17, 2010 at 3:50pm

I'm planning on planting some corn this year for some food plots. I've never planted it before so I really don't have a clue where to begin. When do you guys plant the corn? Any tips would before helpful. Thanks!

March 07, 2010 at 5:09pm

I recently bought a lab and plan to train him myself. I've never trained a dog before so I really don't know what I'm doing and looking for any tips and advice anyone can give me. I've bought the book water dog and ive learned a good bit from it. I will be pickin my dog up in a few weeks and plan to start with household/obedience training right away. Do you guys use the shock collar? Do you force fetch all your dogs or only the ones that need it? Ive had so many questions over the past few days but can't think of them all right now so anything advice is appreciated. Also does anyone know a spot around Houma to Morgan city I can take my dog to do water retrieves without having to worry about alligators looking at my dog as a meal. Thanks

For all of you that hunt lasalle parish when do you normally start noticing rutting activity? Just want to see others opinoins.

January 04, 2010 at 3:10pm

I'm headed up to Tensas NWR new years day for a 5 day hunt. Never been there before but planning on spending the first whole day scouting. Just wondering what type of terrain i will be looking at. I heard it has everything from palmettos to crop fields. Is there a certain type of area that produces more. Not looking for sweet spots just a starting point for scouting since I will be by myself. Thanks guys!

Wax

Anyone hunted the wax the past few days? I plan on making a trip this weekend and wondering how it's been. Hunted it opening weekend and it wasn't great. Hoping more birds have pushed into the area since.

November 24, 2009 at 2:13pm

I plan on making a trip to atchafayala delta wma from Thursday to Sunday. I'm goin to deer and duck hunt. I hunt the wax on a regular basis but never hunted the main delta only scouted it. My question is has anyone ever run from the wax to the main delta? Last weekend I seen a guy run out of the pass and head to the main delta it looked like. I'm just wondering if it's to shallow to run from delta to delta.

We still have ducks but it's not like the beginning of the split and they're definitely making us work. We are having to scout the day before each hunt and find a concentration then come back for a hunt the following morning. After the hunt we have to start the scouting process all over again and find them and then set up for the following morning once again. Being mobile is the key for us.

A comment titled: Owner of both in response to a report titled: Mudmotors

I have owned both a Gatortail and presently a prodrive. To me, I feel like you can't beat a Prodrive. I loved my Gatortail but my Prodrive outperforms big time. A lot of people say Prodrives are slower than gatortails but I don't believe that. If you have it on the right boat they are very quick. I am running 31mph with me and another guy weighing 150lb and this is a completely stock motor on an 18x48 hull. I know a few people with prodrives on the prodrive hull and they top out at 25-26mph so it just all depends on the hull. A lot of people also complain the reverse isn't instant. 10 extra seconds to ratchet the motor around isn't gonna hurt anything. I have the comfort of knowing if I need to put the motor in reverse that FPR is gonna get me out of whatever situation I'm in. Just to tell you how powerful that reverse is, on a frogging trip I pulled five buddies in a 16' boat off a float with no problem that were high and dry and hadn't moved an inch after trying to work their way out for 30 minutes.

As for the launch, take hwy 90 from New Orleans all the way pass Morgan city to Patterson. Just before the calumet bridge there is a service road on the right, take that road. It'll go down a couple hundred yards and T off. Take the left. Go all the way until that road goes up onto a levee and the launch will be on your left.

A comment titled: Wax in response to a report titled: Help with Wax Lake

I just came back from the wax today and if you can I would hold off heading down there until right after a front because there isn't many birds at all in the area right now. I pretty much rode down each pass and didn't see but maybe 50 birds the whole time with majority of them being dosgris. I also talked to a guy who has been hunting out there for quite a while and he said he hasn't ever seen the wax this bad.

Ringnecks primarily and some teal. Occasionally you get some big ducks. Make sure to show up prepared to dress a blind because the blinds are not pre-dressed and stick out like a sore thumb!

A comment titled: ... in response to a report titled: ducks and sunglasses??

Funny you bring this up. This exact situation happened yesterday to me. It was the first hunt this year I hunted with my glasses. I was wearing a pair of coastas with the green tinted lens. Birds would give us a look and then flare off. As soon as I took my glasses off birds would work. The same thing happened last year too. I found a spot holding birds. Went to hunt it and had birds coming into the dekes right away but would flare right outside of shooting range every time. I never put two and two together and didn't shoot a duck because I left my glasses on. It all made sense after yesterday.

A comment titled: Calls in response to a report titled: Easy duck call

I think the call andyparm may have been talkin about is the haydel's DR-85 mallard call. That call is one of my all time favorite calls and is very user friendly. I would suggest starting out with that call. As mentioned above YouTube is a great learning source but the best way to learn to call like a duck is to know what a duck sounds like. When your out hunting pay close attention to the sounds around you ducks are making and try to mimic those sounds.

A comment titled: All depends in response to a report titled: stands

It really all depends on the terrain and area I'm hunting. But a climber is usually my last option. In fact I haven't hunted out of my climber any this year. Where I hunt it's very hard to find a good tree for a climber. I love the comfort of my summit 180 but just like many climbers it's very bulky. I have a loc-on with a set of stagger steps that may weigh 30lb pounds all together. I can throw that on my back and walk miles since it's so compact. Also I can be set up on a larger variety of trees with this set up and in the same amount of time if not faster than a climber. My second choice is my ladder stand. I have one of those cheap 15ft game winner ladder stands from academy that I use strictly for public land. It's breaks down into 3 pieces and I strap them all up together and drag it in. And it's surprisingly pretty light (but can be noisy if I do not take my time). But the biggest deciding factor on what stand to use is the spot i want to hunt. I use whatever stand fits the situation the best.

Hey vineytree what do you soak your soybeans with? Just water or what? Last week I soaked 50lbs of soybeans in diluted molasses and put it out. The beans soaked the liquid up completely and could smell it from hundreds of yards away. Curious to see if they hit it.

A comment titled: ... in response to a report titled: bow help

the bow is a 2009 diamond marquis. its a great shooting bow but when i shoot i hear alot more string vibration than my 2005 diamond triumph. so i got a buddy to shoot it while i watched the string and after the shot the string did have quite a bit of vibration. even just plucking at the string it would vibrate alot. could it be becuase of lack there of or too many twist in the string? im asking this because i did notice a different arrow flight compared to the older bow. the arrow almost seemed to rotate less while in flight but definately moved quicker. maybe the arrow flight seemed different to me since i just started shooting this bow, i dont know.
