My trail cam caught the buck and myself standing in my stand waiting for the buck to turn broadside. He is a 3 1/2 yr old 9 pt that has not shown any trophy potential.

I hunted this deer for nearly two months before I harvested him four days after this picture was taken. I have him on trail cam for the past three years.

I hunt in DeSoto and a few years back a hard bone 9 pt doe was taken. Rare in hard bone or velvet.

I was pumped when my arrow double lunged my best bow kill but... I was watching a 150 class 8 pt for 2 months. He was a daily visitor with a group of 5 bucks. My eyes where clued to every trail cam picture he gave to me. I waited for October 1 and counting the days, hours and minutes till I could be in the tree stand. On opening day I was in my stand 2 hours before daylight and sat as quite as possible. Daylight got closer as my trail cam flashed and I saw deer under me in the dark and that is when everything when wrong. I saw a light the woods and then heard a truck. I was about to cry big boy tears as all the deer under me scattered in all directions. Till this day I do not know if that 150 class was under my stand. The bucks that where coming daily stopped and only the forked brow tine 10 point showed up three weeks later one afternoon and after a 45 min wait I had a 33 yard shot and double lunged him.

He was not my first choice before the archery season started but the 150 class 8 point I was after was harvested on the next lease by a young hunter on a youth hunt weekend. I watch this 10 point for nearly 45 minutes feeding under a nearby oak tree 80 yards away. He finally walked to within 40 yards when a distant noise spooked him and he darted into the pine plantation but he stopped only 33 yards away. I could not believe I had a clear broadside shot inside the thick cover. I release my arrow and made a double lung pass through. He was down in less than 100 yards.

I found this pinch point where deer where going around a dead end deep creek. A feeder with corn mixed with protein pellets and the trail cam to record the results of my scouting.

That was the longest two months of my life waiting for Oct 1, I did get the buck with the forked brows. The big 8 was like a ghost I never saw him the two year I hunted him.

This buck will look great on my wall.

I found this buck on trail cam three days before the rifle season. I hunted the last 3 days of black power season with my bow and only saw small bucks and does. The first 8 days I passed on four younger 8 pts one was a heavy 3 ½ year old. Then on Sat evening 11/5 I was waiting for some does to clear out before I left my stand when he walked out at only 40 yards from me but was too dark to shoot. He was only 20 yards from a bow stand that I had hunted earlier when I last saw him. He then disappeared till Thanksgiving week when my buddy had him on his trail cam one night and then gone again. I hunted there on 12/9, 10 &11 with more deer than I could count showing up at that stand but not the big one. The next week I checked my trail cam and he showed up there on 12/12 at 7:12 till 7:54 only 20 yards from the bow stand again but I was not there. I hunted there on 12/16 and watched small bucks and does. The next morning I was watching 5 does on the hill side and the early morning light and the leaf cover made it hard to see them so I looked out the window and used the binoculars to check and see if any more deer show up and saw him standing 90 yards away. I placed the crosshairs on his shoulder and he did not take another step.

A comment titled: I never past up a rainy day hunt in response to a report titled: Rainy Day Trophy

When the rain lets up it is too late the get to your stand. I see more deer in the rain then when it is over. Smart move on your part to go hunting in the the rain I do it all the time and have great luck on those yucky rainy days.
