Attention all Lafayette fishermen! If you haven't seen the following video then please take a moment to check it out. I want to know how using a drone like mine can be beneficial to helping you fish in the Lafayette area! If this applies to you then please contact me!

Have you been paying attention to the sky above the marsh? If you have been, then you would have seen an unusual looking and sounding bird up there. Except for one thing... It's not a bird. Swamp Stallion Fishing Adventures is expanding!

Sometimes it is difficult to book multiple trips when I am running by myself or have something planned that day. I am working with Captain Sal Fontana to get my customers out on the water and Captain Sal has been great!

Recently he took out the Yuratich family. Despite the high winds and tough conditions he was able to get them on a good trout bite and nail down some excellent rod bending, drag peeling bull red action! They caught their limit of bull reds and released many more. They also caught 30 gorgeous speckled trout that were in the 2-4lb range.

Good job to Amy and her family for making an excellent catch!

Guys, it won't be long before the outside bite starts to heat up and you find yourself fishing spots like the MRGO rocks. One of the fastest routes to get there is the Spoil Canal and you will see that it is difficult to navigate as it is inundated with shallow water areas and underwater obstructions.

Go to this link at my blog and be sure to check out 'The Spoil Canal: Revisited' to get a breakdown on how to run it.

If you have visited my blog, Captain Devin's Louisiana Fishing Blog, before, then you already saw useful articles for your fishing experiences. Some of these articles are:

Tutorial: Custom GPS Routes - How to make your own customized routes for your GPS using Google Earth

Strategy: Swamp Stallion Circuit - How to make the best route using sound strategy and fishing spots to catch more fish

Scouting: Part One - The first part to my series of articles about effectively scouting for fish

Of course, those are just the pages on the top menu of the blog. In the blog itself is plenty of more content that will inform you, amuse you and help you better fish these estuaries.

Some time ago, I put out word that I was working on Scouting: Part Two and I have finally completed it. It's a great article that goes in-depth about a perspective on water movement that few people notice to take advantage of. If you subscribed to my blog, then you will see that it has already been published and would have been the first to lay eyes on it.

Without any further commentary from myself, I suggest taking a second to check it out!

This is a video of some trout blowing up shrimp in one of my favorite spots. I like this spot because it's a main artery in the marsh and a lot of water flows through it. On a falling tide, it's not uncommon to have shrimp jumping here. When we arrived, we already had a limit of trout, but it's good to know other places fish are eating up!

The fall will be great fishing, don't waste any time to book your trip!

Fishing has been great this summer, exactly how I thought it would be. Above all, the customers have been great and it has been a blast putting people on fish. I have had a wide variety of people, from older folks to children. All of them have always enjoyed themselves. Some days are better than others, but I can guarantee you that I will always do my best!

Anyways, that's enough of me talking. I'd prefer to let my videos and pictures speak for themselves. You can always see more here at my Photobucket account: www.photobucket.com/swampstallion or at my Facebook, www.facebook.com/swampstallion

I have availability in October and September. Call or email to book your trip today!

Fishing has been windy, but we have been on 'em. When other guides are canceling, we are working to find a way. The water has been high and is very clean especially in protected areas. A lot of baitfish has been blown further inside the marsh making trout fishing possible. A lot of trout we have pulled up had huge bellies full of finger mullet and pogies. The trout were hitting minnows right at the side of the boat. We have also been catching redfish on protected shorelines. Despite the conditions, life has been good!

Recently we have had a wide spectrum of customers fish with us, to include kids as young as 4 years old and gentleman that are great grandfathers. We work hard to put everyone on an enjoyable experience!

Happy Memorial Day weekend, everyone.

Don't forget what Memorial Day is really about.

The War on Terror doesn't hit home for a lot of Americans. While it goes on every day for those that are involved, it's easy to forget it's there for the rest of us that are at home. Take this weekend to remember those who went above and beyond.

Here you can see the fresh paint for Staff Sergeant Zimmerman. If you ever see me wearing a red bracelet, it is for him. This picture was taken during my second deployment to Iraq in 2006.

I'm not here to gain anyone's sympathy. I just would like to remind everybody what this holiday is about: Memorializing those who have skin in the game.

Hello all, Captain Devin here!

I have an affiliation with Pro Guide Direct ( www.proguidedirect.com ), an outfitter for fishing and hunting equipment, and I am their recommended Louisiana fishing guide. For customers that refer me as their preferred guide I make a 15% commission. Instead of keeping this commission for myself, I'd rather donate all of it to the Wounded War Heroes Fishing Rodeo ( http://wwhfr.com ). It's a good cause and something I believe in. I attended last year, donating my services as a charter captain and had a great time!

I also wrote an article about my experience at the Wounded War Heroes Fishing Rodeo. Feel free to read it at http://www.swampstallionfishingadventures.com/wordpress/giving-back-the-wounded-war-heroes-fishing-rodeo/

A comment titled: Are you sure? ;) in response to a report titled: How can a drone help you?

Brian, what's your background? Actually, I think you're somewhat misinformed. The FAA is currently working to integrate UAS into the national airspace. This year they will be coming out with a 'small rule' in regard to SUAS. Drone technology has been around since 1918. However, in recent years the technology has become lightweight enough to employ in hand-launchable applications. I know that 'drones' have been around for years because I flew SUAS ten years ago in the Marine Corps. Where were you during that time? Your friend flew a mile? Is that it? Moreover, the camera used is a DX201. It only has 540 lines of horizontal resolution. I know this because I bought it and installed it into the plane. Yes, there are higher quality cameras out there, but that does not mean they will fit into the MTOW. FYI, I am building a larger, more robust UAS that will blow the socks off the one you see in the video. It will most likely be able to fly further than a mile. lol You are absolutely correct that very little can beat good ol' fashioned fishing techniques. As a former charter captain I wholeheartedly agree. But what better uses are there than levee inspections, post disaster recce and search & rescue?

A comment titled: LMAO! in response to a report titled: Thank God for Sea Tow

I won't make fun of anybody that has run out of gas. It has never happened to me but there have been times I have come painfully close.

I towed in two boats that ran out of gas last summer. I figured there's no way anybody would fish the middle of Bayou LaLoutre in July.

May 27, 2013 at 5:03am
A comment titled: One more thing... in response to a report titled: Thank God for Sea Tow

I've towed in countless people. People still help eachother out, there's no doubt about that. I don't think there's any different 'breed' of people that are the source of our problems.

Most of the knuckleheads weed themselves out.

But depending on others to pull your slack 'just because' is ridiculous. The marsh is huge and the likelihood of anyone coming across your broken down boat is slim.

I don't like leaving people 'out there' and never have. I also know a lot of people that could come tow me in if I needed it, but I still have a SeaTow membership because I don't want to inconvenience them if I don't have to. Every other charter captain has the same backup plan, despite knowing everyone on the water.

One time I ran all the way back out to Bay Eloi to recover a guy that broke down. And that was after fishing all day and being tired as hell! It was a three hour tow and was dark by the time we made it back. The gentleman agreed and thought SeaTow was a great idea! Guess hindsight is 20/20.

TigerDave said it best: I wouldn't want a weekend warrior towing me in if I could have a professional do a high speed tow and get me there safely!

May 26, 2013 at 6:16pm
A comment titled: My thoughts... in response to a report titled: Thank God for Sea Tow

On anybody that doesn't want to pay $160 for a SeaTow membership.

Capt Christian and HotRod are great hard working people that ought to be fairly compensated for the incredible service they provide.

Furthermore, nobody is obliged to hold your hand if you don't want to act like a grown ass man and take responsibility for yourself and the people on your boat.

A comment titled: Check out the LA Fishing Blog... in response to a report titled: New to Inshore Fishing - Hopedale & MRGO?

A lot of great advice has been given so far.

Yes, the trout are headed outside for the spawn. You can either take the MRGO (by going around the Rock Dam) or the Spoil Canal. The Spoil Canal can be tricky, which is why I wrote an article about it, located here:

A comment titled: I've owned several pistols... in response to a report titled: Springfield 9mm Compact XDM

I used to own an older model XD in .45 ACP. It was a great pistol but had a lot of slack in the trigger and even worse, a lot of slack in the trigger reset. A year or so ago I was able to shoot a newer XD in 9mm. It wasn't even the same gun. It was phenomenally better than the .45 XD I used to own.

With that said, I will admit that I am a Glock fan.

I think you will be happy with your purchase. Buy some ammo and 'hi-cap' mags before they're banned!

Use the Google Earth GPS tutorial to help you find some more.

Do you have a pic of how high the motor is mounted while the boat is running? The water should be even with the cavitation plate as the boat is on plane.

Given the location of the pitting, it looks like cavitation is the culprit.

A comment titled: Maybe not... in response to a report titled: MRGO

This weekend the NOAA Marine Weather Forecast predicts southeast winds 15-20 knots. Those will shoot straight up the MRGO. Also, it may literally rain on your parade as 'rain likely and scattered thunderstorms' is predicted.

If conditions get better, I would troll the MRGO rocks looking for baitfish, then anchor up and sit on them.

With thunderstorms and wind, I would stay close to the marina and fish ponds for redfish. With E and SE winds between now and then, you should have higher water to enable to get back to where the reds are. Water is higher than predicted levels anyways.

Good luck!
