Good start to teal season with sour finish

Had spectacular hunt Saturday AM. #18 hit the water at 7:15. Sunday different story. Started morning off running trespasser of my lease who set up in exact location we did Saturday. Then we only had 2 opps and killed 2 teal. I believe that group of poachers hunted my lease Saturday evening and ran all the teal that were holding out. Hopefully we get more birds down soon.

Trespassing/poaching is very frustrating to deal with and can ruin your area as you have explained. We deal with it in Delacroix every season as well. Most of the time they admit they are wronged and leave peacefully. They would rather take a chance and get run out peacefully than pay for a lease or fight the public land battle. Eventually nice guys like you and I need to get tough on these trespassers or they will just keep bouncing around and getting to hunt good property for free while getting run out a couple of times a year. Ridiculous!!!

We tried the nice part the only group we show any sympathy to is when there is a child in the boat and they admit they are in the wrong place or just flat lost, still take pictures of the boat numbers and location and turn it in to the lease owner or wild life and fisheries.

Just a heads up that Wildlife and fisheries in Louisiana cannot actually enforce trespassing laws. It’s absolutely stupid but that is Louisiana for you. I talked to two different agents who confirmed. You have to contact the local sheriffs office/police dept. and that’s a crap shoot. Though, I have personally seen two guys who were trespassing actually get brought to jail because they caught and attitude about it.

What the Wildlife agents did say was if they are on patrol and someone reports trespassers (depending on if the agents are d-bags or not) they will go tell the guys they have to leave or they will be reported.

What worked for me was taking a picture of the boat and the people. Letting them know you were turning it in to the Sheriff’s office. Calling and emailing whoever will listen at the sheriffs office and let them hopefully do their thing.

Friends who hunt other states tell me their agencies are aggressive on trespassing. Our state for the most part, could care less. That’s why Venice spiraled out of control years ago. Pure circus down there now.

Yep should have mentioned the Sheriff department my bad, but like you said LAWLF has assisted in the past, most assistance has come from the land owner.
