Teal Sightings in Delacroix

Reply

PawPaw and I went to Delacroix again today to start the process of moving Blinds that are now in water instead of on the land due to the continued erosion. The last few weeks we have been seeing one or two teal each trip. Today we saw 17 along with some mottled ducks. We saw 2 groups of 4, 2 groups of 3, a single and a pair. They were in the same area where they show up each year. Still plenty time for them to arrive before 9/15. Lots of work to do before the big duck season to get more blinds built and moved to dry land. The excitement is starting to build!!!

Yep, Proud Pop Is right! My brother and I jumped 2 flocks and a few singles on one of our Delacroix leases this past Saturday. This is the earliest I've seen teal on my leases in a long time!
Can't wait! We have a few dates left available.

Re: Teal Sightings in Delacroix
Proud Pop,I have yet to see any teal in the marshes I hunt, though where I hunt we do not have stellar teal seasons, but I can tell ya we spotted a massive flock of mottled ducks, probably 10 in flock, and I rarely see more than 2-4 per flock.BayouBob and I typically see nothing but wood ducks in this marsh come teal season and not sure where they disappear come Regular Duck Season.Delacroix always seems to have more than the lion's share of teal and there are some small flocks that typically dive-bomb the NShore Marsh, though I do not count on them showing up until maybe the end of the month, possibly first of Sept.Big duck season, different story!!!Good luck on your property and I will call ya live soon.Wifey and I up in Ozarks and enjoying every second of it and wish we had a tenth of their deer herds.Saw at least 15 in one field with no less than 4 trophy bucks!!!

The late Robert Helm, the former waterfowl study leader for Louisiana, once told me the reason you see wood ducks in the marsh in September is because the acorns have yet to drop in the wooded areas. Once November rolls around the woodies head for the woods and virtually disappear from the marsh.

Mike,Makes perfect sense to me and we do shoot a few woodies where we hunt in the Regular Duck Season, guess we get fairly close to the treelines(where the big ole greenies hang out)and maybe get 1-2 per hunter per Regular Duck Season.Hope to start spotting some blue rockets real soon and never seem to have stellar teal hunts where we hunt but I did get some intel from young fellow last regular duck season and he claimed to have gotten limits on every hunt, not terribly far from where I typically hunt!!Good luck and right now enjoying the Ozarks and all her splendor.Wish we had smallmouth bass!!
