Boat Launch Grand Chenier/Mermentau

Does anyone know the conditions of the boat ramp in Grand Chenier? I am looking to launch a 26’ w/ twin engines, want to be sure the ramp isn’t too short/shallow/etc. I have never launched there before & don’t want to make the trek over there if it isn’t suitable.
How far is the run down river to head offshore? (If it’s too far or the ramp sucks, I welcome any & all advice for the best ramps in the area.) Thanks for any advice.

Your best bet is to launch at the public launch south of the Freshwater Bayou locks. The ramp in Grand Chenier is steep, the river is shallow, what little channel is left is not well marked, and there's no way you'd be able to get back on the trailer at low tide. Freshwater Bayou or Cameron are much much better launches that put you almost directly into the gulf.

Freshwater City launch is silted in bad and very shallow. I launched a 27 world cat there a week ago on high tide and got stuck as soon as I got off the trailer. An hour later and finally got back on the trailer and went back to the camp.

Honestly your best bet is rollover launch in pecan island. But the launch is garbage and if you back too far in you will run off the ledge of the launch....have fun getting it out of the water if that happens.

If you launch at rollover you have to cross over trinity shoals going out... it’s always rough as hell

This sounds like sh*t. Is the Cameron launch better? I live in DeRidder so Cameron is much easier to acces that further east. But I am wary of the Cameron launch. I have no probs with my bay boat there, but worried about my new (to me,) boat. Any luck launching there in an offshore boat?

I heard the ferry launch was closed, so I’m
Taking about the public launch on the other side of on the way to the public park/fishing pier in Cameron proper. Sorry for all the questions, But navigating this area makes me nervous. Seems LA doesn’t like to maintain their public ramps & If sucks. We pay so much in taxes & licensing and I wonder where it all goes??

The Cameron Ferry boat launch is open. The ferry is closed from 6pm-6am each night.
It is a good launch for large boats.

Last time (last week) I went to rollover I hit something hard submerged at the mouth of the boat ditch that empties into the gulf. I was in an 18ft boat. It was/is completely submerged on the west side of the cut in the marsh.
There's a launch directly into the ship channel south of the ferry on the east side of the channel. We launch large boats there often. You can not run aground, and there is a marked channel all the way offshore. I believe there is another boat launch into the ship channel on the west side as well. There is a good launch in west cove but you are further from the gulf. Depends on what you want to fish for? The fishing at the rigs 20 ish miles or so out are good, but the further you go the better usually. Depends on rainfall and wind etc. Out of all the above mentioned options Cameron is the best bet.
