Heading down to GI tomorrow through the weekend. Looking for some recent reports. How’s the bite on the beach? In the bay? Live bait/artificial? Any fish under lights at night? Camp we’re staying at has lighted pier. How are the crabs running? Thanks in advance and I’ll post a report following the trip

Re: Grand Isle
The bite on the G.I. beach has been almost non-existent as of late. There was a lot of trout being caught on the rocks on the East end of G.I. not too long ago. The bite on Elmer's has been day-to-day with one day epic and the next one very tough. I keep waiting for the beaches to pick up and get more consistent any day now? The bay bite over reefs and on points has been where the best action has taken place. I've had as much luck throwing plastic (cork with a shrimp imitation and glow swimbaits) as I've had with live shrimp or croakers.

The crab action has also been non-existent. Most folks caught none on crab lines, I caught a grand total of 8 nice crabs in two traps with fresh trout carcasses (the best crab bait on the planet) when left overnight. I have seen a lot more crabs over the past week swimming with the current headed out than all summer. I expect the crabbing to steadily pick up.

Good luck and let us know how you did.

Got back today from an long weekend in GI. fishing worst we've experienced in 10 years. In four days, six of us only managed to put a dozen trout and one sheephead in the box using live shrimp and every plastic in our arsenal. Wind ruled out surf fishing much of our trip but was not a factor fishing from the boat except for Sunday morning. Fished all around the bay north side of GI and around the islands to the east. Saw many other boats on the water, only saw one other boat catching a few fish on the east side of the island. Talked to several at the launch, no one catching. Everyone I talked to, including myself, is baffled as to where the fish went. If anyone knows feel free to comment!

On the other hand, we caught five dozen crabs over night using six crab traps. Actually had about 7 dozen counting pregnant females that were thrown back

Re: Grand Isle
Its been that way for us several times this year. The beach bite was on one day and off the next four days. Very uncommon for this time of the year.

Experiencing the same in Dulac/Cocodrie.

Pull up and catch 3-4 nice trout and then nothing.
next spot zero fish.
5 spots later - 3-4 nice trout again.

Work hard for 12-18 trout, although they have been 15-20 inch range.
Wife even caught double 18' trout on plastic - next bite was an hour later...????

I've been watching the guide reports - and they are still catching some trout but it haven't seen many steady 'early limits' 'back at camp by 9' reports.

Good Luck - keep casting -

Started making trips to GI for memorial day or fathers day in 2008. Typically a four day trip and fish morning/afternoon each day. Usually bust one morning/afternoon but always hammer the trout during the overall trip. Never a bad trip till now. There's usually a lot of birds diving in the bay north of the island, mostly school trout but a sure thing to have the kids get some fast action. Didn't see a single bird diving in the bay this year but there was a ton of bait. Bay was loaded with commercial shrimpers and catching shrimp with a cast net was very easy. Just doesn't make sense. Ton of bait everywhere, shrimp, croakers, mullet, had good moving tides everyday but no fish. Hope this is just a fluke and not a sign of things to come
