Looking back on a good season and dreading the off season

I was spending some time looking back through my pictures and logs from this past duck season and it has been as good or better than the past five seasons. My guide hunts went very well this year and the couple of slow hunts I had seemed to happen when I hunted with my family. We shot mostly teal and greys during the season till the greys started to get scarce the last two weekends. We still killed a few greys each hunt but shot a few dogris to fill limits at the bitter end. I made some new friends that I look forward to hunting with in the future and enjoyed the company of buddies I have been hunting with for years. I know it was a tough season for some, including some of my family, but I had a great season. Guess it was a combination of hard work and a little luck at times. As I type this I am getting messsges from some that hunted with me this year looking to book there dates for next season already. I guess it helps us all to start the planning for next year. There are boats to clean and maintain and more blinds to build. I can?t wait!!! Here are some pics from this past season. Good luck to all as we wait till we can hunt again!

Proud Pop,Congrats on a fine season and I am getting texts and e-mails from folks asking for tips on Federal Land and I respond to all of them pretty much with the standard reply, scope out Google Maps and seek the ponds that look promising and are a chore and a half to get to and ya might surprise yaself.Love dat pic of you and ya Pop's and so glad to have met yall at Delta Waterfowl Banquet.Had a few guys from MS that were hunting a tad N of me swear they heard a bunch of mallards in between us and I assured em dat it was me blowing dat ultra-fine DC Countdown 2.0 and even had a buddy compliment me as he and I were chatting on speakerphone and I had pair of mottled ducks looking like they needed a lil chatter to get their attention and gave em some nice quacks and he commented that it sounded just like dem You Tube videos!!!Thanks for convincing me to check out dat DC call,my ATT call!!!My season was ok at best but hunting Federal/Public Land exclusively has a totally different set of challenges and I found more than enough remote ponds that should be loaded up with nice ducks and have few die-hards willing to put up with de Mandevillian and even got one out of semi-retirement and he is about as passionate as me and just picked up nice pirogue and planning on getting nice PU to replace his fine Luxury SUV so we can load up pirogues in his truck for paddle-in hunts, sometimes the bomb when ya find willing ducks and are up to de task of getting well away from crowds.I am shifting my attention to trolling Trestles for specks, getting after some Honey Island Swamp mini-lobsters and submitted Wifey and I for Sherburne WMA Wild Turkey Lottery Hunt(have never shot banded duck but have banded jake under my belt, not sure how many folks have killed banded turkey)!!My buddy I pulled outta semi-retirement has connections in Arkansas and Delacroix and Jgoins1981 and I chatted today about his organization and I am in big-time,can't wait to hear more from him and I can most definitely tell ya the grey migrations we used to routinely get are no where near just a few years ago.Bayoubob has unfortunately not experienced the incredible success we used to take for granted in Big Branch and guess he takes what he can get, don't blame him,but if he only coulda met me Katrina year when we whacked and stacked em and even shot probably 8 greenheads that year!!I have high hopes for not only Jgoins' organization but also the Joyce WMA area and the NShore Marsh.Countdown to Teal Season!!!

Great Pics Roland. Glad you had a great year also. Going to have to make a road trip up there with you one year. Maybe during our coastal split. Hope all is well and we make it through the off season.

Had buddy take me and another fellow fishing, launched at Mandeville Harbor and blazed over Lake to Trestles and we spooked up tons of ducks, mostly Dos Gris, few buffleheads and in the Rigolets area, plenty of green wing teal and Dos Gris and the boat owner recently getting back in de duck-hunting game after about a 30 year hiatus!!He is getting fine top-of-de-line Tundra(great truck with unbelievable re-sale and reliability and strong as an ox)and this off-season,gonna show him plenty of paddle-in spots, not easy access, however, and we also got crawfish to chase as well!!Struck out big-time at Trestles and everywhere we tried but de water temps a tad too cool for effective trolling and since we both live in Mandeville,as soon as Causeway heats up,gonna hit de Big Bridge hard. This fellow has some very fine connections for Delacroix and Arkansas hunts and I have buddy with access to Venice camps,we just never got the inclination to head as far S as Venice. Can't wait to paddle some of dat fine NShore Marsh to see what she holds at this time!!
