Quite a number of years ago, most likely post-Katrina,there were numerous Manatee sightings in the Mandeville area and I was fishing near Goose Point and saw what looked like a snorkeler clearing his lungs but the problem was this woulda been huge swimmer with enormous lung power and when I slowly motored close for an inspection, turned out to be a Manatee. There were a few hanging out near the ole Pre-Stressed plant(near Sunset Point)and a few of us saw those huge 'water cows' up close and personal. They swim fairly slow and from what I understand, sometimes get nicked by boat props!Awesome sight, indeed,Manatees in Lake Pontchartrain!

Was wondering if anyone has ever eaten a Manatee? Wondering if it would be easy to clean? Do they eat vegetation or do they feed on live bait, etc.

Naw! They're total vegetarians. The meat is light pink and they taste like Bald Eagle.
