Dead Fish Along The Causeway (Lake Pontchartrain)

Saw what looked like a bunch of dead bull reds floating as I crossed the Causeway this afternoon. They started right off the Southshore and continued at least half way across. Anybody know what's up with that?

Not sure if what you saw were reds but I have seen a few dead black drum on my last few trips, perhaps they got caught in shrimp trawls, though I doubt there are that many shrimp in the Western part of Lake Pontchartrain.Perhaps a few folks will chime in with what they see.Hate to see breeders dying!

There was a lot of dead swamp water after the tide went out with the storm . Clear black water has no oxygen and it is possible these fish got caught in it...It came from 51 canal and probly blind river and the La Branch marsh....Wind and tide is the best thing to clear it up ...It's already better on the western end....Everything around the I/10 area of parish line was clear black also....

Think best guess now that I have chatted with a fellow NShore fisherman is those black drum may have gotten caught at the Sunset Point fishing pier and got dumped back in as most folks do not keep monster drum. Just a guess but makes sense.

I really don't think this amount of fish would have been caught and released from the pier. I can only estimate the numbers that I saw that day, but it was definitely over 50. Also, it appeared that they were bull reds, drum don't normally have a reddish color to them, it was a clear sunny day and the wind was out of the North East.
