Coyote Hunting

Set up this morning in the middle of three hay bails and put the FoxPro out about 20 yards from us. Shot one coyote at 75 yards, then shot this big male running at 100. Wasn't able to recover the first as it ran off and the blood trail ended, but this one fell dead in his tracks. One of the biggest coyotes I've ever seen here in Louisiana. I'm officially addicted to coyote hunting. And I'm saving deer.

Nice
Nice job taking out as many coyotes as possible. We have taken out three over the past three weekends while deer hunting. The coyotes are so bad where we are that they have come up to the camp harrassing the dogs, and they are doing it in packs of 8-10. Our new camp rule is that if you let a coyote walk infront of you and you don't shoot, you are not allowed back anymore!

FoxPro
I have the FoxPro Spitfire. So far I'm happy with it. It called in 3 coyotes for me on this particular hunt, and a few weeks ago I went out to Sandy Hollow to hunt crows and called in probably 40 within a half hour...only shot 1 but it was my first attempt at hunting them and it ended up being more of a learning experience than anything. The call comes programmed with 20 calls. This model has been discontinued, but I still see them at BassPro and Academy. It was only discontinued because they changed the remote system. But the Spitfire works fine. I paid $199.99 for mine but I think now they're like $129.99. Just warning you, this coyote hunting thing is addictive.

I killed 11 of them 2 years ago in the cane field behind my house. One of them killed my cat. I haven't seen any more them. If I do they are dead.

Re: Coyote Hunting
Does anyone know of any guides for coyote hunts in the South LA area? Want to shoot some dogs but cannot do it in New Orleans. They might think I'm in a drug deal gone bad. lol. Please advise.

Re: Coyote Hunting
I shot one in December while deer hunting in Mississippi , it was an 80 yard shot with a 243. My first rifle kill , since I only hunted with a shot gun in years past. I agree with others here , it is a blast and want to do more of it.... I live in Diamondhead , Ms. And in the early evening lately I hear them yelping in the distance when I go outside. I hear it's mating season.

What's up Everybody. I went to visit an uncle of mine yesterday morning that stays on Cane River here in Natchitoches. When I pulled up in his yard he was stand on his front porch looking out into a pasture that across from his house . When I asked him what he was looking at he simple said 'you don't see all of those coyotes !!!!' . I hadn't paid any attention to the 11 coyotes pacing back and forth in the pasture because of the water being so high they had no where to go. So when I asked him if he had shot any of them he said that he wasn't worried about killing them at that moment. But me on the other hand !!!! I quickly said I'll be back in 20 minutes I quickly ran back to my house and grabbed my AR-15 and my 7mm mag (Don't judge me on the 7 mag) .When I made it back to his house he had a ice chest full of beer and a table with lawn chairs setup. I quickly pull out the pit bull (my 7 mag) as I put the cross hairs on a big male a slowly pulled the trigger I kind of felt bad for the coyote cause he really didn't have anywhere to go because of the water but when he dropped and I seen the rest of the pack scatterI quickly forgot about that and I let my pit bull EAT !!! The pack was confused because they didn't know which way to run or where the shot had came from so they began to run straight towards us when they were at about 50 yards away I politely introduced them to my AR-15 at the end of all of the shooting 8 coyotes lay dead . Was I wrong for taking advantage of the opportunity ?

Big Rogue, I would have liked being there with you.....I never thought I would like hunting them but I do. I plan on getting s few this spring on a small 4 acre place I have off Hwy 43 in Mississippi just off the ole river wm area. They are a menice and will kill deer, dogs , chickens, etc. They are smart and not that easy to fool so its a challenge to kill them.
