Veteran turkey hunter dies

Anyone who hunted turkeys in East and West Feliciana during the seventies and eighties is familiar with the name Ken Morgan. Kenny died of cancer on Nov. 20 of this past year. He lived in Jackson and enjoyed many a spring morning turkey hunting there and in the surrounding communities. He invented a tube-type caller known as the Morgan Caller. He was quite proud of this turkey call and claimed it made the best gobbler call ever.

Kenny also wrote a book, Turkey Hunting, A one Man Game. I met Kenny in the late seventies and would see him periodically in my work in these parishes. He knew I had been photographing turkeys in the early eighties during our trapping operations and so when he was writing this book he asked me if he could look at my turkey photographs to see if any would work for his book. He chose several for his book and I was really honored when he put one of my photos of a West Feliciana Tom on the cover.

This is a classic read along with the book by Edward McIlhenny and the books by Tom Kelly. Kenny also deer hunted and in 1977 killed a buck with his recurve bow that scored 161 4/8 Typical and is listed in the Pope and Young Record Book.
