How to clean and cook a squirrel

Squirrel season offers fast action, tasty meals

Squirrel hunting is one of the most popular forms of small game hunting in Louisiana. It can offer some fast action, and that’s a great way to keep young hunters involved. It’s also a great way to put some food on the table. But cooking them is a bit of an art form, and a lost one at that. Most people — even avid outdoorsmen and women — have never cooked a bushytail.

Thankfully, the Backwoods Gourmet chef is here to show us a great way to clean one of these critters, then cook it up into a tasty meal.

Squirrel hunting season ends on Feb. 29. The spring squirrel season runs May 2-24.
