New book points out LSU football helped Branch survive hunting accident

For most of his life, writing a book was the furthest thing from Matt Branch’s mind. In fact, even as a football player at LSU, Matt wasn’t that fond of books that he had to study as a student-athlete.

There are a lot of things in Matt Branch’s life, though, that he didn’t plan on. And details of those experiences are at the heart of Branch’s new book, “Nobody’s Gonna Die Today.” The title was taken from one of former LSU conditioning coach Tommy Moffitt’s famous sayings when the football players thought they had gone their last mile in one of the grueling practices.

Branch’s new book is available online at Barnes & Noble or on Amazon for $17.99 in paperback or $25.99 in hardback. It is also available on Kindle. It was co-authored by his wife, Liana, and includes an introduction from Coach Moffitt.

The book’s overview says this about the story. “On a wet cold nasty day in December everything changed for Matt and Liana Branch. An easy comfortable life is what most people hope for. But an easy life does not make for a good story. Nobody’s Gonna Die Today is a story that seems too crazy to be true.

In this page turning memoir you will laugh, you will cry, and you will see how life, no matter its condition or circumstance is always worth fighting for.

Matt Branch is a former college athlete who played football at LSU from 2008-2012. In 2018 he was involved in a near death experience that resulted in the amputation of his left leg. This book reveals the details of that story, about how his football career at LSU and his faith gave him the foundation to begin the process of turning darkness into light.”

Awe-inspiring

Moffitt said the same thing about the book as most of its early readers have said in reviews.

“Matt’s story is riveting, awe-inspiring, scary and even grotesque at times, but it’s real,” he said. “It’s hard to put into words how moving it can be. Fortunately for the readers, Matt, and Liana, did an amazing job at that and I know that you will be moved by them.”

Matt currently resides in Monroe with Liana and his two children, son Barrett and daughter Charlotte Ann.  He works in the farming industry for Cortiva AgriScience.

Louisiana Sportsman ran a feature article about Branch’s accident, the heroic efforts to save his life, his recovery, his dedication to sharing his story of faith — and a reminder that a hunting accident can happen to anyone at the blink of the eye if you let your guard down for even a second.
