Public invited to comment on development of long-term management plan for Cat Island NWR

Meeting set for 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 18 at St. Francisville Town Hall

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is in the process of developing a comprehensive plan for the long-term management of Cat Island National Wildlife Refuge in West Feliciana Parish, and individuals are welcomed to provide their input at an upcoming meeting.

The public is invited to meet with the refuge staff on Monday, Nov. 18 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the St. Francisville Town Hall, located at 11936 in St. Francisville.

Maps and written information on the comprehensive plan will be available, but there won’t be any formal presentations, and participants can come and go at any time during the meeting, according to a press release.

The refuge, which is known for its hunting, fishing and hiking trails, was established in 2000 to conserve, restore and manage bottomland hardwood forests for migratory birds, aquatic species and endangered and threatened plants and animals.

It also protects the world’s largest known bald cypress tree, the release states.
