LDWF seeks volunteers for Elmer’s Island Beach Sweep

Bass, catfish, bream and paddlefish could have been killed by untreated wastewater, agencies say.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries needs help cleaning the beaches of Elmer’s Island this Thursday (Aug. 18), the agency announced.

The Elmer’s Island Beach Sweep will begin at 8 a.m. with the aim of restoring the beauty of the popular fishing area by picking up debris along the beach.

The event is being hosted by LDWF and the Louisiana State University AgCenter.

Volunteers can sign up by contacting Julia Lightner at jlightner@wlf.la.gov or 504.913.7849 or Caitlin Reilly at creilly@agcenter.lsu.edu or 504.495.8763.

Volunteers are reminded to take the proper precautions against the summer conditions by wearing a hat and sunscreen.  LDWF will provide drinks, but there will be minimal shade available.
