Public land buck for Jordan Tull

Jordan Tull of Winn Parish was able to kill this public land 8-point that scored 130 1/8 on Kisatchie National Forest in Winn Parish, Area 2, on Dec. 14, 2023. The best part was he was able to get it done with his grandpa’s (William B. Tull Jr.) old 30-30 that he passed down to Jordan back on his 12th birthday.

“That morning I brought my .444 with a scope and that open sight 30-30 because I wanted to shoot one with that 30-30 just to be able to kill one with my grandpa’s old gun, but I didn’t want a good one to step out at 100-150 yards and me not be able to shoot him because I didn’t have a scope on it, so I brought both guns.

This buck came by I think four or five times with a doe. The third time he came out, he gave me a shot at about 100 yards or so. So I grabbed my .444, got a good prop on the edge of my climber, and sent it. I missed the whole deer completely!!!!!! The buck and the doe ran about 30-40 yards and started feeding again. Then they come by two more times and the second time they came by at about 70-80 yards and gave me a shot. So this time I grabbed the 30-30 and smoked him!! I couldn’t believe I had missed and then got another chance at this buck. It was almost like it was meant to be for me to kill him with my grandpa’s old gun!”
