Blonde squirrel

Eight-year-old son Tripp Janzen went squirrel hunting for the first time this year on Oct. 8, 2023 and he shot a blonde squirrel at Bodcau in Area 2.

“We chose to go to Bodcau in Area 2 not far from Plain Dealing, La. We were using a Mossberg bolt action 20 gauge. We hadn’t really seen anything the whole hunt. As we were making our way back out the woods, Tripp spotted a grey cat squirrel sitting on a log. So we got Tripp in a position where we had a clean shot. As he was getting ready to take his shot a second cat squirrel came into view right next to the first grey squirrel. At that time we couldn’t tell the second squirrel was blonde, because we thought it was the way the sun was shining on the squirrels fur. At that time, Tripp squeezed off a shot hitting both squirrels. Tripp and I then proceeded to retrieve the squirrels. It was then I realized one squirrel was blonde. It was the first I ever seen or heard of a blonde squirrel. Talk about memories, first time squirrel hunting and then bag a rare blonde squirrel on kids first kill.”
