Gionni Provenzano, 6, had his dream come true on Oct. 28 when he went fishing with his Pawpaw, Don Winters, and his uncle, Larry. He got to reel in this giant bull red.
“I just wanted to share a little story about my son, Gionni Provenzano, who is 6 years old, and his Pawpaw, Don Winters! Every month when I get my new Louisiana Sportsman magazine I always give it to my son Gionni first and tell him to pick out his favorite boat and his favorite fish! He was fascinated by mahi-mahi and several other fish like red snapper!! So we took him to the Bahamas this summer and went on a fishing trip where he caught a 47-inch bull mahi-mahi and a barracuda!! Both of which I told him if we catch something nice, I was going to get them mounted for him!! So as promised, we are still waiting for them to come back from the taxidermist! He’s always been fascinated with bull redfish, so I’ve been telling his Pawpaw if y’all go fishing try to catch a huge redfish so Gionni can get him mounted! Well his dream came true on Sunday, Oct. 28, when Gianni went fishing with his Pawpaw and his Uncle Larry. They caught several small redfish which he was tickled to death to be able to catch. He had no idea what was about to happen. They hooked into a redfish that nearly pulled his Pawpaw’s pole in the water! So he was going to try to wear the fish out for a few minutes before handing Gionni the pole! Once he gave Gionni the pole, he ended up fighting the fish for what felt like an eternity!! Once they landed the fish, all he wanted to do was Face Time his dad to tell him that they were finally going to get a bull redfish mounted!! I don’t know if he was more excited or me once I got the call and the pictures sent to my phone!! Unfortunately, I was working and couldn’t believe I missed out on such an incredible moment.”
