4-pound crappie snatched from South Carolina river

Huge sac-a-lait tops Louisiana’s heaviest crappie

The heaviest Louisiana sac-a-ait ever recorded was a 3.84-pound black crappie landed in February 2000 by Kincaid Lake angler Tony Boatwright.

That fish was a beast, but an angler fishing on South Carolina’s Santee River recently caught an even bigger crappie.

Jeff Sanford of Sumter, S.C., landed the 4-pound crappie on  Jan. 28 while fishing with a guide.

The massive perch came from some cover in deep water, falling for a live minnow swimming beneath a cork.
