Don’t ignore Grand Isle’s beach when conditions are nice

When nature loses her puff down around Grand Isle during late April and early May, Capt. Vernon Ledoux knows that the big trout come out to play.

“You won’t catch many trout (on the beach), but they’re all going to be huge,” he said. “You might only end the day with 10 or 15, but they’ll be some of the biggest trout you’ve ever caught.”

Best baits are MirrOlure Catch 5s, big Rat-L-Traps and various topwaters.

“You’ve got to find a calm area on the beach side of Grand Isle, Fourchon or Elmer’s that has clean water and bait, and you’ll catch them,” Ledoux said.
