Louisiana Saltwater Series Fishing Tournament stops in Slidell

Catch-and-release redfish tournament to feature 100 percent payback.

The next stop in the Louisiana Saltwater Series Fishing Tournament circuit is this Saturday (July 23), with participants launching out of Slidell, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries announced.

This redfish catch-and-release trail, developed by LDWF in conjunction with the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Foundation, is designed to promote conservation of the state’s saltwater resources.

Participants in Saturday’s event will launch from Dockside Bait & Tackle and The Dock.

Each two-man team pays $200 per event, and 100 percent of the entry fees are paid back.

Three-man teams are allowed, but only two of the members can be older than 15.

This year, a youth division was established to introduce young anglers to the sport of fishing and to teach the catch-and-release approach to conservation. Participants under 16 years of age will compete against one another in a separate category for trophy catch; all youth anglers will be recognized.

The 2011 series is comprised of six fishing events and a championship. Tournament locations are scheduled across the coast.

The remaining 2011 tournament schedule is as follows:

• Aug. 20 – Port Fourchon, Moran’s Marina
• Oct.7-8(Championship) – Empire, The Delta Marina.

Online registration for the tournament will close Thursday (July 21) at noon, but those interested in participating can register the morning of the event at The Dock from 4 to 5 a.m. Only cash or checks will be accepted for payment of registration fees the morning of the event.

The Disney Radio Road Crew will be on-site to entertain kids of all ages with interactive, hands-on, music and contest-filled events, so be sure to bring the entire family.
